Position Summary

The Business Intelligence Engineer II will be part of a team in Frisco, TX or Nashville, TN. The Business Intelligence Engineer II will lead the development and management of our Power BI platform, serving as the primary owner of Power BI-based business reporting, analytics strategy, and self-service enablement across internal and external stakeholders. This role is responsible for designing and implementing automated data workflows and supporting the analysis of large, complex datasets to drive business insights. The ideal candidate is highly data-driven, with strong experience in building scalable BI solutions and delivering impactful reports and dashboards for both internal teams and external stakeholders. This individual will collaborate closely with data engineers to enhance our end-to-end data ecosystem and should be passionate about driving innovation in business intelligence.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain Power BI dashboards and reports that deliver actionable insights to both internal stakeholders and external clients.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to gather requirements, understand reporting needs, and implement tailored BI solutions.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders, including product, client success and leadership teams, to translate business needs into PowerBI solutions that drive decision-making.
  • Build and manage DAX-based semantic models to support efficient and scalable analytics within the Power BI platform.
  • Support and enhance automated data pipelines in collaboration with data engineering, with the ability to contribute Python scripts for custom report generation or data transformation.
  • Ensure accuracy and consistency of data visualizations through thorough self-review, validation against source data, and user testing.
  • Document reporting processes, data definitions, and workflows to promote transparency and repeatability.
  • Troubleshoot issues, identify root causes, and raise concerns proactively to maintain the reliability of BI tools and reports.
  • Contribute to the expansion and optimization of the BI reporting catalog, identifying opportunities for new dashboards, KPIs, and process improvements.
  • Maintain version control and testing procedures for Power BI datasets and reports in alignment with best practices and governance policies.
  • Stay current with BI trends, Power BI feature updates, and industry best practices to continuously improve report quality and user experience.
  • Design frameworks and reusable templates that empower clients to extract and customize their own Power BI reports
  • Act as subject matter expert on PowerBI best practices for both development and business analysis functions.
  • Lead data visualization strategy, aligning business goals with impactful storytelling.
  • Provide guidance and training to less technical users on PowerBI usage and self-service capabilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Data Analytics, Computer Science, or equivalent degree
  • Minimum 2-4 years of experience in business intelligence, reporting, or analytics roles including at least 3 years of hands on experience with PowerBI in both development and client-facing capacities
  • Experience with Power BI, including report development, DAX calculations, data modeling, Power Query, and performance optimization of dashboards
  • Proficient in SQL-based querying, with preference for experience in PostgreSQL or similar relational databases
  • Working knowledge of Python and Shell scripting for data transformation and custom reporting tasks
  • Familiarity with Linux-based environments, including file system navigation and basic command-line operations
  • Skilled in using Microsoft Excel for data validation, manipulation, and reconciliation tasks
  • Solid understanding of file structures, data exchange formats, and best practices for secure data sharing
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to clearly articulate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Deep understanding of database design principles, data normalization, and data warehousing concepts
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively gather business requirements and translate them into actionable BI solutions
  • Experience enabling self-service PowerBI capabilities for clients and internal teams
  • Comfortable leading workshops, requirement sessions, or report walkthroughs with business stakeholders
  • Ability to prioritize and work independently while maintaining close collaboration with cross-functional teams
