JOB SUMMARY
The Corporate Director of Payroll oversees all aspects of payroll operations across a multi-state hotel portfolio, ensuring accurate, compliant, and timely payroll processing for all associates. This role ensures accurate allocations, accrual calculations, and resolution of payroll liability issues. The Director will lead and develop the payroll team, maintain precise process documentation and ensure full compliance with all payroll regulations.
This position serves as the company’s Paycom expert, responsible for overseeing system configuration, optimization, reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance payroll accuracy, efficiency, and compliance and ongoing process improvement.
The ideal candidate has deep technical expertise in Paycom, exceptional leadership and project management skills, and a proven ability to drive efficiency in a complex, multi-property environment.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

The Hotel operates 24 hours a day and 7 days a week, so operational demands require variations in shift days, starting times, and hours worked in a week.
• Lead and manage the full payroll function for all company-managed hotels and corporate entities, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timeliness.
• Act as the company’s Paycom system expert, maintaining a deep understanding of platform capabilities and leveraging advanced features to streamline payroll, reporting, and compliance processes.
• Develop and implement payroll policies, procedures, and controls that support consistency and regulatory compliance across all states of operation.
• Partner with HR, Benefits, and Finance leadership to align payroll processes with organizational goals and ensure seamless integration with timekeeping, benefits, and general ledger systems.
• Manage and mentor payroll staff, providing guidance, training, and performance oversight.
• Oversee tax filings, wage garnishments, and other statutory deductions in compliance with federal, state, and local laws.
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives, using data and system capabilities to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and service delivery.
• Audit and reconcile payroll data, reports, and accounts as needed.
• Develop and enforce payroll policies, processes, and controls that promote accuracy, consistency, and compliance.
• Serve as key liaison for external audits, system updates, and compliance reviews.
• Monitor payroll processes for compliance with federal, state, and local wage and hour laws, tax regulations, and internal policies.
• Oversee and validate all year-end payroll processes, including W-2 and ACA reporting.
• Collaborate with Accounting and Finance on payroll-related audits, general ledger reconciliations, and forecasting.
• Create and manage custom reporting in Paycom to support HR, Finance, and leadership decision-making.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of payroll best practices, tax laws, and Paycom system enhancements to ensure continuous improvement.
• Serve as the key contact for internal and external payroll audits and compliance reviews.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Experience
• Bachelor’s degree required; degree in Finance, Accounting, or related discipline preferred.
• 8+ years of progressive payroll leadership experience, preferably in hospitality or a related industry.
• 4+ years of management/supervisory experience overseeing multi-state payroll operations.
• Expert-level Paycom experience required, including implementation, configuration, reporting, and process optimization.
• Proven success leading HRIS/payroll system conversions or new implementations.
• Strong knowledge of payroll processes, accounting principles, and multi-state payroll tax laws.
• Experience managing payroll for unionized properties preferred.
• CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) designation a plus.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, with strong data analysis and reporting skills.
• Exceptional communication, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
• Ability to multi-task, prioritize under tight deadlines, and manage complex issues with professionalism and confidentiality.
• Minimum Experience 3 years comparable accounting, 1 year minimum accounting supervisory experience.
• Requires managerial skills as position involves frequent decisions, meeting of deadline, negotiations of contracts of vendors, analytical ability and the planning, organization development and coordination of large-scale work projects.
• Must have bank reconciliation, balance sheet reconciliation experience and journal entry creation experience.
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to direct/motivate department to meet and exceed goals.
• Must have excellent business communication skills. Strong time management skills needed. Well organized and excellent attention to detail. Ability to adjust to changes.
