- Provide a comprehensive professional and ethical quality clinical services to patients in an effective and efficient manner.

- Performs the professional duties of a pediatric critical care doctor
- To perform his duties on the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and provide support for very sick children across the hospital in-patient setting, namely the Emergency Department, Operating rooms and the Pediatric Ward
- Performs general or special examinations and other procedures covering the full scope of the field of pediatric critical care. Orders laboratory examinations and x-rays, determines diagnosis, prescribes nursing and dietary
- care necessary, orders or applies such preventive measures as required, provides life-saving intervention relating to airway, breathing and circulatory support of the critically ill child
- Serves as pediatric consultant to in-patient services relating to children such as pediatrics’, pediatric surgery and the emergency room
- Provides in-patient care to the children up to the age of 18 years
- Serves as a specialist in pediatric intensive care providing consultative services to the other Medical specializations
- Provides technical assistance to pediatric patients, such as airway, breathing and circulatory support
- Reviews journals, texts or periodicals in order to keep current on latest techniques, procedures, drugs and therapy
- Participates in scheduled in-service training programs and in the regular Physicians' Conference
- Provides on-call coverage for children on the pediatric intensive care unit
- Performs other miscellaneous related duties as requested
- Ensures, Performs, Responsible for hospitalized patients whose condition requires medical care at the specialty level and or artificial airway, ventilator and circulatory support
- Day-to-day care for all children on requiring Critical Care
- To evaluate, resuscitate and manage critically ill children including those with vital organ and system failures
- To use organ support and replacement systems
- Should have expertise in cardiopulmonary resuscitation, airway management, invasive monitoring, renal therapy and mechanical ventilation as per that which is routine for pediatric critical care practice
- To anticipate, assess and define problems in the critically ill child, diagnose and implement a management plan – within the acceptable time frame and according to principles of multidisciplinary care
- To communicate effectively and establish and foster relationships with internal and external clients
- Be compassionate, self-motivated and the ability to work under pressure for hours that is stipulated per contract
- Need to manage the process of end of life care as per hospital policies
- When on-call, the specialist should be available for consultations as requested by doctors in other departments, in the intensive care areas, ER, and other critical care services
- On duty you should give consultations, on children, as requested by doctors in other departments, in the intensive care areas, ER, and other critical care services
- Will serve as a major contributor to in-service training activities of the new and existing employees
- Works under the general professional supervision of the Head of the Department.
- Performs professional duties of a pediatric intensivist in adherence to the approved Privileges maintained by the Critical Care department for individual intensivist. Privileges may differ between individual specialist pediatric intensivist’s, depending on the efficiency, experience, expertise and skills of the particular individual.
- Participates in the reading of EKG’s (Electro cardio Gram) for pediatric critical care patients in collaboration with Pediatric Cardiologists
- Participates in mortality/morbidity review; Quality Assurance and peer reviews
- As is possible, participates in the weekly/ monthly Departmental meeting/ training and participates actively in various committee meetings as designated such as the ER, Infection Control, PICU and CPR
- Reviews journals, texts or periodicals in order to update latest techniques, procedures, drugs and therapy
- Provides on-call emergency coverage for PICU and Emergency patients
- Occupational Safety and Health Management Systems
- Comply with reasonable OSH instructions, policies and safe working procedures
- Use of appropriate personal protective equipment and safety systems.
- Be familiar with emergency and evacuation procedures
- Not willfully or recklessly endanger anyone’s health and safety
- Assist with the preparation of risk assessments
- Report OSH Hazards, incidents, Near misses and issues
- Reduce, Reuse, Recycling of waste as much as possible
- Attend all OSH Trainings, awareness programs and mock drills.
- Participates in the OSHMS audits, inspections, ensuring standards are maintained
- Prevention and Control of Infection (PCI):
- PCI is everyone’s responsibility. All staff are required to read and implement the NMC PCI Policy and Strategy in an effort to maintain the highest possible standards of cleanliness at all times, thus reducing the risk of infection in patients, staff and visitors.
- The strictest hand hygiene, 5 moments of hand hygiene, bare below the elbows and environmental care, will be expected of all staff, including the post holder, at all times
- Be familiar with emergency and evacuation procedures

- Assist with the preparation of risk assessments

- Prevention and Control of Infection (PCI):
At least 3 - 5 years’ post qualification experience at Specialist level (independent of country)
At least 1 year Specialist level experience from a Tier 1 country as specified by the UAE healthcare regulator.
Basic medical degree and completion of a specialty qualification/education programme (fellowship/diploma) recognised by the relevant UAE healthcare authority.
Certification and registration in a speciality recognised by relevant UAE healthcare authority. Active and valid life support certification (e.g. BLS, ACLS, PALS, ATLS, NRP)
Eligibility for relevant healthcare authority registration e.g. Membership from Royal College / Arab Board Certification / MS / DM / MPhil or an equivalent recognised by relevant healthcare authority in UAE
