Pay:
$25.76 - $29.83/hr
Verifies, repairs and overhauls of automobiles, trucks, construction equipment, Public Safety Apparatus, and other fleet equipment. Quality Assurance Inspector may verify the skills and ability of Mechanics to maintain and repair multiple pieces of equipment, they may be assigned to the level of Mechanic for which they qualify.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities:
- Reads job order, observes and listens to equipment in operation to determine malfunction, and tests and inspects parts for wear to plan repair procedures and requisition required parts or outside services
- Verifies parts i.e., carburetors, blowers, generators, distributors, starters, and pumps, rebuilds, and adjustments of brakes, wheel alignment, and repairs or replacements of shock absorbers.
- Installs new ignition systems, changes, or re-charges batteries, and replaces other parts as needed
- Assists in removal and replacements of gas or diesel engines, gearboxes, and hydraulic components
- Examines protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices and adjusts or repairs equipment as necessary
- Inspects and lubricates equipment in conformance with preventive-maintenance specifications
- Keeps worked area and assigned motor vehicle neat and clean, free of debris
- Follows safe work practices, uses required safety equipment, and reports any unsafe working conditions immediately to a supervisor
- Back-up for Fleet Supervisor and Service Writer.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Valid State of Florida Commercial Driver’s License with a clean driving record (Class B minimum Preferred)
- Must obtain CDL Class B within 180 days of hire as a condition of employment.
- Five years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Experience with diagnostic equipment and personal computers
- ASE certification in a minimum of three truck and three automotive skill areas
- Any combination of education and experience may be substituted, so long as it provides the desired skills, knowledge and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job

Frequently positions self to maintain vehicles, including under vehicles and in small interior spaces.
This position frequently communicates with supervisors and other staff to safely execute the maintenance of County vehicles. Must be able to accurately convey and perceive information in these situations.
Must be able to perceive, inspect, and assess safety and maintenance instructions and equipment to execute essential maintenance duties. Must be able to distinguish colors, depths and details to ensure safe and accurate equipment repairs, installations and maintenance.
Must be able to move objects up to 70 pounds, and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue. Constant movement and use of limbs; this position requires good manual dexterity, coordination and stamina.
Regularly works around moving parts, in an outdoor environment which may expose the worker to inclement weather, excessive heat and humidity, pollution, fumes and airborne particles.
The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and may occasionally be exposed to risk of electrical shock in carrying out maintenance duties.
The noise level is usually moderate.
