Job Summary:

Responsible for the design, development, and implementation of mechanical systems and components.  Works on complex projects, often taking the lead on specific aspects, and collaborates with cross-functional teams to deliver innovative solutions and ensure the successful execution of engineering projects. Identifies the best materials and processes to ensure the quality, performance, and manufacturability of products. Conducts analysis and tests to determine the weaknesses and failures in prototypes or products.

Essential/Primary Duties:

  • Works on moderately complex projects, generates alternatives, and conducts testing.
  • Expands problem definition, integrates new information and different perspectives, and chooses optimal solution based on evidence.
  • Communicates to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Makes informed decisions within assigned tasks/projects and takes ownership of the outcomes.
  • Assists in identifying and evaluating risks, contributes to risk mitigation.
  • Applies advanced engineering methods and tools to solve mechanical engineering problems.
  • Identifies the best materials and processes to ensure the quality, performance, and manufacturability of products.
  • Identifies and contributes to process improvements utilizing six sigma techniques.
  • Identifies testing and validation opportunities, contributes to product and process improvements.
  • Follows engineering standards, codes, regulations, and best practices.
  • Keeps up with the latest developments and trends in mechanical engineering.

Secondary Duties:

  • Contributes ideas for process changes and improvements.
  • Influences change within their discipline.

Education And/Or Experience:

Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field and 2+ years of relevant experience, or similar combination of both.

Competency And/Or Skill:

  • Solid working knowledge of the advanced CAD features (SolidWorks and/or CREO). At least 2 years’ experience with CAD
  • Ability to setup, run and analyze static FEA for components
  • Expertise in exploring the features of metallic and polymer materials and choosing the material that suits the application under the supervision of a senior ME peer
  • Ability to create basic parts for a medical device system that follow the guidelines of design for manufacturing (DFM)
  • Ability to apply knowledge of prototype methods to design and test components and subsystems
  • Solid working knowledge of the safety standard regulations
  • Ability to design a simple system that can produce or control motion, using mechanical elements such as springs, dampers, gears, pulleys, etc.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Provides leadership, coaching, and/or mentoring to level I engineers and co-op's.
