Your journey starts now—protect and innovate with MANTECH!MANTECH seeks a highly talented, customer-oriented Manufacturing Quality Engineer to join our team in Decatur, AL, supporting the United States Space Force Space Systems Command (SSC) Assured Access to Space (AATS) – National Security Space Launch (NSSL) program. This role plays a critical part in quality engineering and production assurance for launch vehicles, ensuring both supplier compliance and fleet readiness across the NSSL program.
As part of this mission-focused team, you will deeply engage in the manufacturing quality lifecycle, oversee quality controls, track anomalies, and support flight readiness of launch vehicles to help assure mission success for national security space assets.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- In this role, you will lead technical assessments, audits, and readiness reporting for critical launch vehicle components and processes. You will:
- Lead development and implementation of quality processes, inspections, and methods to ensure flaw-free products that meet design intent, including test equipment setup, defect analysis, and process improvements
- Analyze component-level and systemic quality issues; produce risk assessments and corrective actions; maintain oversight of supplier performance, conformance to AS9100 and MIL standards, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Perform launch vehicle quality assurance tasks including article-level assessments, tracking non-conformances, configuration verification, and consolidating surveillance and readiness reports for flight certification
- Manage Out of Position (OOP) work evaluation and closure, verify special processes acceptance, validate "as-built" configurations, and identify Escapements or hardware changes that affect flight safety
- Conduct quality audits of products, processes, and suppliers, and ensure compliance with program and industry requirements including SMC-S-021, SAE AS6500, LE-T-014, and engineering design standards
- Generate recurring and on-demand Quality Program Surveillance and Tail Number Reports covering avionics, composites, propulsion, hydraulics, and structures across all flight-critical items
- Provide full-time, on-site support at the Decatur, AL manufacturing facility, with flexibility to travel to launch and supplier sites; support cross-functional teams with clear reporting and proactive communication
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, or other STEM field
- 8+ years of experience as a systems engineer, technical PM, or related field
- 3+ years in aerospace quality or manufacturing engineering
- Willingness to travel occasionally to Launch Providers, Suppliers, LAAFB, VSFB, CCSFS, and other sites
- Proven ability to data-mine designs, drawings, and procedures to produce technical quality assessments
- Comfortable working across multidisciplinary teams including DoD, USAF, NASA, NRO, and contractors
- Demonstrated capability to write clear, structured Weekly Activity Reports (WAR), including risk analysis and recommendations
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in complex product manufacturing with understanding of design, producibility, and process qualification/validation
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint-type systems
- Education, certification, or demonstrated experience in quality engineering, manufacturing, and production programs
- Experience supporting Delta, Atlas, Falcon, or other launch vehicle platforms
- Familiarity with Jira and Confluence
Clearance Requirements:
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance
Physical Requirements:
- This position requires the ability to meet basic physical demands, including:
- Remaining in a stationary position for 50% of the time
- Occasionally moving about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
- Constantly operating a computer and other office productivity machinery
