Position Summary
At Stony Brook Medicine, a Instructional Support Assistant, Core Laboratory (per-diem) in the Department of Laboratories is a valuable member of our team, who provides clinical services to our patient population. Will maintain specific knowledge of safe laboratory practices as endorsed by the New York State Department of Health and Occupational Safety and Health Administration and conducts oneself in a manner consistent with those practices to ensure the safety of all lab personnel. Qualified candidates will demonstrate superior patient care and possess outstanding communication skills while adhering to our high standard of excellence.
Duties of a Instructional Support Assistant, Core Laboratory (per-diem) in the Department of Laboratories may include the following but are not limited to:
- Under the supervision of an SL-4 Clinical Laboratory Technologist/Bench Supervisor or a senior Clinical Laboratory Technologist, the Incumbent will assist in calling critical test results to the healthcare providers through the Sunquest LIS Critical Calling Modular.
- Under the supervision of an SL-4 Clinical Laboratory Technologist Bench Supervisor or a senior Clinical Laboratory Technologist, the Incumbent will review daily Lab QA reports to make sure all critical results are properly called and documented. All discrepancies will be promptly brought to the attention of the SL-4 Clinical Laboratory Technologist or a senior Clinical Laboratory Technologist.
- The new Incumbent will assists in the regulatory mandated inventory control process by tracking the Core Lab reagent lot numbers and expiration dates. All issues related to the lot numbers and reagent expiration dates will be promptly brought to the attention of the SL-4 Clinical Laboratory Technologist Bench Supervisor or a senior Clinical Laboratory Technologist.
- Will centrifuge, aliquot, and distribute biological specimens in the optimal way to assure specimen integrity and maintain all safety regulations as per established procedures and regulatory standards.
- Maintains records of laboratory reports, such as temperature charts, eye washes and maintenance logs per regulatory standards.
- Will provide backup support in the Core Lab stat service and serve as a runner in transporting specimens within the Core Lab and between the Core Lab and MART building.
- Incumbent will assists in Correlation and Linearity Studies by entering collected data into excel worksheets for analysis and plotting.
Qualifications
Required: Associate's Degree or equivalent college credits.
Preferred: Prior clinical laboratory experience. Prior experience in an academic medical center.

- Meet Regulatory Requirements for pre-employment screenings.
- Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).
