Residential Support Worker

Salary: £25,500 per annum, pro rata (£13.22 per hour)

Location: Edinburgh, Midlothian

Type: Casual  - pick and choose when you work, around your study, family, retirement or home life!  We have day and night shifts available.

A bit about the role 

Our Gilmerton Road Project offers short breaks and outreach support for children and young people (aged 5-21) with learning disabilities. We are thrilled to extend a unique opportunity to experienced Residential Support Workers to join our dedicated team.

Our Residential Support Worker role presents an excellent opportunity for experienced individuals in the care sector looking to advance their careers with our support. The role involves managing risks to empower young individuals, enhance resilience, and prioritise safety. Demonstrating a high level of person-centred practice and embodying strong social care values are key aspects of this position, serving as a positive role model for children and young people under our care.

You’ll play a crucial role in empowering children and young individuals to discover, connect, and create lasting memories by:

  • Facilitating Short Breaks: Working alongside a skilled team, you will create a welcoming environment for young individuals to maximize their short breaks, fostering skill development, socialisation, and independence during their stay.
  • Community Engagement: Engaging in community activities, you will support children in accessing local environments such as beaches, zoos, and parks, enabling enriching experiences and social interactions.

Additionally, we collaborate with CAMHS ID and our Behavior Consultant to design and implement person-centered support plans, ensuring consistency and positive outcomes for all our young individuals. 

How you'll help to create brighter futures  

  • Provide lead case/care planning management, including assessing, reviewing and managing risk. 
  • Co-ordinating responsibilities within the service, with multi agency and producing family information, including analysis and written reports. 
  • Attendance at professional meetings including reviews, court work etc. 
  • Help young people in all aspects of their daily lives.  
  • Have good communication skills and the ability to engage well with both young people, colleagues and other professionals. 
  • Be a creative thinker and having a solution focused approach.

Are you resilient and have a positive approach to change and challenge? We’re looking for someone with a ‘can do’ attitude to join our team. Ideally you’ll have:  

  • Demonstrable experience of working in a care setting and developing positive relationships through trust. 
  • Application of a range of techniques to co-ordinate and communicate with service users and their families. 
  • Demonstrate a solution focused approach to address problems, individually and in a team setting. 
  • Demonstrate emotional resilience to respond to the challenging nature of the role. 
  • Possess a Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or recognised equivalent) or if you do not possess this you must be prepared to complete this within 2 years of commencing employment with us, full support will be provided.
