Planning and Environmental Appeals Division (DPEA) is an operational division of the Scottish Government making decisions on behalf of and reporting to Scottish Ministers on a range of planning and environmental casework.
As an IT Support Officer, you will work alongside another IT Support Officer to provide IT and admin support of various DPEA systems to staff and stakeholders. You will also be responsible for the set-up, running, and recording of virtual events, as well as occasional in-person events. These may require occasional travel and overnight stays across Scotland.
Responsibilities
- Provide statistical data and reports, using SQL reporting to interrogate DPEA systems, to aid in workload management, compilation of DPEA’s annual review and responses to PQs and FoI requests.
- Assist, advise and action all aspects of virtual and in person meetings, for both internal and external events.
- Responsible for communicating changes and news related to the work of DPEA, using a variety of methods, including internal systems, the Scottish Government website and user guidance.
- Provide first contact support to staff including home-based reporters, casework staff and members of the public on IT related issues.
- Provide support to projects to enhance IT systems such as documenting discussions at meetings and assisting in developing training and guidance for the division for the relevant systems
- As required, carry out finance duties to meet business needs within DPEA, such as the purchase of equipment, raising purchase orders and reconciling appeal fees.
Qualifications
A full UK driving licence will be required to carry out the in person event duties of this role.

Working patternOur standard hours are 35 hours per week and we offer a range of flexible working options depending on the needs of the role. From October 2025, the Scottish Government will require staff in hybrid-compatible roles to work in-person 40% of the time, either in an office or other agreed work location. This post can be done on a hybrid basis but in office attendance (Hadrian House, Callendar Business Park, Falkirk, FK1 1XR) at particular times will be required to fulfil the duties of the role.
