This team plays a crucial role in supporting Microsoft 365 and the Experiences + Devices group (E+D), both of which are central to the Company's mission to empower individuals and organizations to achieve more. The Senior Director of Analytics & Data Storytelling will play a critical role for our entire Data Science team. The Senior Director will create a roadmap and backlog of compelling data stories working across our entire team. In addition, this data leader will be responsible for all external stories and metrics that are based on M365 data. The ideal candidate will be able to drive this work directly as well as develop a skills-based learning approach to develop expertise at scale across our team.

Responsibilities

  • The ability to create impactful narratives and storytelling with data across a variety of contexts and mediums to influence product and business decision making.
  • Oversee the progress on top research projects through the lens of impactful communication.
  • Coaches peers and teammates on the fundamentals and basics of data storytelling.
  • Develop a comprehensive approach to cross-team research and data science plans aligned to business goals and emerging market trends.
  • Serve as a liaison between the research team and other stakeholders (e.g., program managers, product teams, or leadership).
  • Provide regular updates on research progress, preliminary insights, and final results. Incorporate feedback from various perspectives while maintaining research integrity.
  • Help integrate research findings into broader project deliverables and strategic decisions.
  • Embody our culture and values.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Doctorate in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field AND 7+ years data science experience (e.g., managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techniques and reporting results)
  • OR Master's Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field AND 4+ years data science experience (e.g., managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techniques and reporting results)
  • OR Bachelor's Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field AND 6+ years data-science experience (e.g., managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techniques and reporting results)
  • OR equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of hands-on research experience including designing and executing complex data-storyelling projects from start to finish.
  • OR Master's Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field AND 4+ years data science experience (e.g., managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techniques and reporting results)
  • OR Bachelor's Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field AND 6+ years data-science experience (e.g., managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techniques and reporting results)
  • OR equivalent experience.

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

  • 3+ years project management experience.
  • 4+ years experience working with decision makers to define need and scope research to answer questions.
  • 4+ years creating content that conveys a simple, clear message.
  • OR Master's Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field AND 7+ years data-science experience (e.g., managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techniques and reporting results)
  • OR Bachelor's Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field AND 8+ years data-science experience (e.g., managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techniques and reporting results)
  • OR equivalent experience.

Data Science M6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $163,000 - $296,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $220,800 - $331,200 per year.
