About You
We are looking for an energetic and resourceful Freelance Event Marketing Manager to lead the promotional and partner activation efforts for a major football event taking place in France at the end of the year. This role is ideal for someone with strong networking, project management, and organic marketing skills, who thrives on building buzz and filling stadiums without relying on big paid media budgets.
You will be responsible for creating and executing a 360° event marketing strategy, driving attendance through creative organic channels, partner activations, and community outreach.
Main Responsibilities
Event Marketing Strategies
- Develop and execute an organic marketing strategy to maximize awareness and ticket sales aligned with the company’s business goals and ensuring brand consistency across all communication channels.
- Leverage networks, press contacts, influencers, and community organizations to promote the event, as well as driving direct outreach (calls, emails, community engagement) to fill the stadium.
- Ongoing analysis of market trends, competitors, and consumer insights to identify opportunities for brand growth and differentiation. Use insights to optimize brand strategies and improve customer experiences.
Merchandising Strategy and Execution
- Lead the development and execution of merchandising retail pop-up strategies to drive product desirability and event sales.
- Manage relationships with external agencies, concessionaires, product developers or partners to ensure high-quality products and customer experience.
Project Management
- Develop and maintain detailed project timelines, ensuring all event marketing and partner deliverables are met.
- Collaborate with internal teams (content, creative, design) and external agencies to create and supervise engaging marketing campaigns and ensure timelines are met.
Campaign Management & Controlling
- Plan and execute marketing campaigns (digital, print, social media, events) that communicate the brand’s message and engage target audiences.
- Manage marketing efforts across different channels, including social media, email marketing, content marketing, SEO, SEM, and paid advertising in line with established KPIs.
- Implement strategies to generate leads, converting them into sales opportunities for tickets and merchandising products.
- Provide regular reports and insights on the effectiveness of marketing campaigns and ROI.
Requirements
- 5-7 years of experience in marketing.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
- Proven experience in event marketing, sports marketing, or live entertainment promotion with successful track record for organic campaign delivery and grassroots outreach.
- Specific experience with ticketing campaigns or community-driven attendance growth. A creative thinker who can find solutions and generate buzz without relying on paid media, but also the ability to analyse data and make strategic decisions.
- Strong local network in and around Marseille in the sports / entertainment industry, sports media, fan communities and cultural organisations.
- Hands-on project manager with the ability to manage multiple stakeholders and timelines.
- Strong communication and presentation skills, ideally in multi-cultural environments. Confidence in outreach, relationship building and persuasion.
- Fluent in French and English.
