Lead Orthodontic Assistant

Location: Red Rock Orthodontics – Oklahoma City, OK

About The Role

Red Rock Orthodontics is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Lead Orthodontic Assistant to join our energetic and patient-focused team in Oklahoma City. This key role supports our doctors chairside, oversees daily clinical operations, and helps train and mentor our assisting team to ensure every patient receives the highest quality care in a fun, organized, and efficient environment.

What You’Ll Do

Clinical Excellence

  • Assist the orthodontist during all procedures, including bonding, wire changes, appliance delivery, and debonding. 
  • Take and process digital X-rays, impressions, and intraoral scans. 
  • Prepare and maintain operatories and sterilization areas according to OSHA and infection control standards. 
  • Monitor clinical flow, ensuring patients are seated and procedures start on time. 
  • Troubleshoot and maintain orthodontic equipment and instruments. 
  • Maintain a strong understanding of orthodontic systems, wires, brackets, and treatment protocols. 

Leadership & Training

  • Serve as the point of contact between the clinical team, doctor, and management. 
  • Train, mentor, and support new assistants in clinical techniques, efficiency, and patient care standards. 
  • Conduct regular chairside evaluations to ensure consistency and quality. 
  • Help create and maintain clinical manuals and training materials. 
  • Participate in team huddles and contribute to process improvements. 
  • Model professionalism, positivity, and teamwork in all interactions. 

Organization & Efficiency

  • Manage daily patient flow to ensure timely, smooth operations. 
  • Maintain clinical supply inventory, place orders, and track usage to minimize waste. 
  • Coordinate lab cases and verify appliances are ready for patient appointments. 
  • Monitor sterilization and maintenance logs for accuracy and compliance. 
  • Collaborate with the front office to communicate schedule needs and updates. 

Patient Care & Communication

  • Greet and prepare patients, explaining procedures and answering questions. 
  • Educate patients on oral hygiene, elastic wear, and appliance care. 
  • Provide reassurance and comfort to patients of all ages. 
  • Support the doctor in ensuring excellent clinical outcomes and a positive patient experience. 

What You’Ll Bring

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of a dental assisting program preferred. 
  • Current Oklahoma Dental Assistant permit or Orthodontic Assistant certification required. 
  • Minimum 2–3 years of orthodontic assisting experience, with at least 1 year in a lead or senior assistant capacity preferred. 
  • CPR/BLS certification. 
  • Strong knowledge of orthodontic procedures, materials, and sterilization standards. 
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills. 
  • A team-first attitude and passion for patient care.
