Description
Terraphase is looking for a Senior Staff Engineer in Portland, OR to perform the following duties: Environmental compliance support, identifying non-compliance issues and recommending corrective actions for multiple market sectors including Schools, Industries, Government agencies, and Land Developers/Owners. On-field support and oversight of drilling operations, excavation, construction, environmental site characterization, environmental media sampling, and monitoring. Analyse and interpret environmental data collected from on-field activities and laboratory analysis to assist in informed decision-making. Remediation engineering support for contaminated Sites, including the construction of remediation technology, oversight of maintenance and operation, and final closure post-remediation. Assist in preparing and developing work products such as environmental assessment reports, project status, and recommendations for stakeholders. Oversee implementation of environmental engineering projects, and manage budgets, timelines, and project teams to ensure efficient project execution. Hazardous material surveys and oversight of abatement activities in compliance with the regulations. Experience or graduate coursework for the following skills: 1. Understanding the principles of contaminated site delineation, the principles and processes of applied remediation to effectively treat the contaminated Site. 2. Understanding physio-chemical processes involved in determining the fate, transport, and treatment/remediation of organic/toxic chemicals in contaminated environmental media.
The Role
- Expand on existing experience and knowledge of drilling procedures and standard field sampling procedures for various environmental media (soil, unconsolidated deposits and bedrock, soil vapor, groundwater, surface water/sediment, and air).
- Document and record field data and observations in a clear and concise manner.
- Direct and oversee the installation of groundwater and soil vapor monitoring wells.
- Implement investigation work plans as in-field task lead.
- Task management role in project kick-off tasks including preparation of project plans, permit applications, sub-contractor agreements, site-specific Health and Safety Plans (HASPs), and other project-related documentation.
- Direct and train newer staff on field methods in accordance with standard operating procedures.
- Oversee and direct various subcontractors while conducting environmental site investigation and remediation work.
- Expand on experience in the analysis, evaluation, presentation, and interpretation of hydrologic, hydrogeologic and chemical data obtained during field investigations.
- Prepare draft technical reports for review by project manager and principal in charge.
- Demonstrate the commitment and ability to implement and lead safe work practices in the field in accordance with the HASP, provided training, and other applicable regulations.
- Gain a working knowledge and understanding of federal and state regulations applicable to environmental site investigation, remediation, compliance, and due diligence projects.
Who You Are
- Bachelor's Degree required, Masters Degree preferred in Engineering or similar applied science.
- 2-4 years experience.
- A driver's license and clean driving record.
- Basic computer skills, including use of tablet computer for in-field documentation.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Adobe Professional.
- Excellent communication, teamwork, analytical, organizational, technical writing, problem-solving, and client service skills.
- Self-sufficient and ability to work under pressure of deadlines.
- Able to oversee and work with subcontractors (e.g., drillers, construction workers, etc.) while performing field work.
- Able to work outdoors while standing for long periods of time (field days can exceed 12 hours).
- Confident in working at environmentally impacted field sites and committed to being a proactive participant in health & safety culture.
- Able and willing to respond to and perform emergency response work; including being on-call for set durations of time.
