Position Overview:
The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Boise State University invites applications for a full-time Teaching Assistant Professor (non-tenure track) position. The successful candidate will play a vital role in advancing the department’s instructional mission by teaching a combination of introductory chemistry courses and upper-division courses that align with their disciplinary expertise and departmental needs. Teaching areas will include general chemistry, and may also include organic chemistry, analytical chemistry, biochemistry, inorganic chemistry or other related subfields.
This position is composed of approximately 80% teaching and 20% service, with teaching faculty in the department typically instructing an average of four courses per semester. Service may include participation in committees, curriculum development, student mentoring, and outreach activities. The department places a strong emphasis on high-quality, student-centered instruction and values innovative, inclusive teaching approaches that promote active engagement, critical thinking, and mastery of core chemical concepts and laboratory skills.
Teaching faculty are integral to the department’s success and are encouraged to contribute to curriculum development, mentoring, assessment initiatives, and service activities that support both the department and the broader university community. There are also opportunities for up to 10% of the workload to be dedicated to scholarship in the area of chemistry education or instructional innovation, particularly projects that enhance teaching practices or student learning outcomes.

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry offers a Bachelor’s and Master of Science degrees in Chemistry. The department's vision is to “Promote student success through excellence in chemistry.” We realize this vision by providing exceptional student research experiences and a curriculum that includes developing critical thinking skills, independent research projects, instrumentation training, exceptional laboratory practices, and mastery of scientific writing.
As a Carnegie R2 ranked institution (Ph.D. granting, high research activity), we are dedicated to increasing high impact research. Our faculty members conduct research in areas such as drug discovery, medicinal chemistry & medical devices, cosmochemistry, prebiotic chemistry, archaeological science, computational chemistry, enzymology and enzyme mechanisms, RNA and protein chemistry, and polymer chemistry. Our faculty members participate and mentor Ph.D. graduate students in transdisciplinary programs including Materials Science and Engineering, Biomolecular Sciences, Biomedical Engineering, Computing, and Systems Engineering (planned).

Minimum Qualifications:
- PhD in chemistry or chemistry education
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in some of the following areas
- Instruction of general chemistry
- Instruction of analytical chemistry lecture and lab
- Development and instruction of online chemistry courses
- Engagement in evidence based instructional based practices
- Instruction of general chemistry

Salary And Benefits:
Salary Is $65,000
Our standard faculty contract is a 9-month contract (unless otherwise noted) with pay and benefits spread over 12 months. This is a yearly, renewable contract, unless noted that the position is temporary. More information about faculty contract and work days is available here.
