This role is in the DroneShield Sydney headquarters in Sydney CBD. There are approximately 380 staff based in the 4,000sqm facility today, scheduled to grow to approximately 500 staff by end of 2026. Overseas on the ground presence includes Virginia (USA), Netherlands, Denmark, Mexico and Dubai, as well as distributors in over 70 countries globally.

About The Role

DroneShield is seeking a Junior or mid-level Mechanical Engineer with relevant experience to join the team in Sydney, NSW. The position will report to Mechanical Engineering Lead.

This role will be responsible for developing and sustaining DroneShield products. This will include CAD development, working with suppliers, simulation and testing.

Responsibilities, Duties and Expectations 

  • Develop mechanical solutions using SolidWorks and PDM
  • Create fabrication drawings using SolidWorks
  • Obtain actionable info from stress analysis and thermal simulations using SolidWorks
  • Write up test plans and conduct testing to validate mechanical design
  • Troubleshoot issues that arise at all stages of the product lifecycle
  • Create and manage accurate and detailed Bill of Materials as needed
  • Manage several projects simultaneously, project timelines and provide daily/weekly updates as needed

Qualifications, Experience and Skills 

  • Degree in Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work with other disciplines
  • Good understanding of mechanical engineering such as stress, deflection, sealing, tolerances, clearances, heat transfer, DFM and willingness to learn as needed
  • Can generate novel ideas and creative problem solving to complex problems
  • The ability to work in a fast-paced, environment, deliver and meet deadlines under pressure
  • Experience with Geometric dimensioning and tolerancing preferred
  • Experience CAD modelling with Solidworks and Solidworks PDM preferred
  • Experience conducting FEA, CFD with Solidworks preferred
