Sanlam Alternative Investments (SAI)
The purpose Sanlam Alternative Investments (SAI) business is to help build the African continent and make a real sustainable difference in the emerging economies in which we operate in, aligning to the Sanlam Group’s mission of financial inclusion. What Will You Do?
Responsible for managing distressed and non-performing credit exposures, leading restructuring negotiations, and developing recovery strategies that maximize value and minimize credit losses. This role is also responsible for finding innovative solutions for all stakeholders.
Responsibilities Include:
- Lead restructuring and workout of complex distressed credit investments across sectors.
- Monitor restructured exposures and ensure adherence to revised terms.
- Analyze financial statements and cash flow to assess restructuring feasibility.
- Develop and execute restructuring plans to improve liquidity and financial stability.
- Negotiate directly with borrowers, sponsors, and advisors to reach sustainable restructuring solutions (e.g., covenant waivers, debt-for-equity swaps, maturity extensions).
- Collaborate with legal, credit risk, and external counsel to ensure compliance with regulatory and contractual frameworks.
- Present restructuring strategies, risk assessments, and recommendations to senior credit committees.
- Conduct asset sales or reorganizations to satisfy stakeholder interests.
Qualification And Experience
- Relevant postgraduate qualification (e.g., Finance, Investment Management, Economics, Accounting).
- CA(SA) and/or CFA designation preferred.
- Significant experience (Minimum 10 years) in debt workouts and restructuring
- Deep understanding of financial markets, lending practices, and accounting.
- In-depth experience with corporate credit analysis, investment structuring, and portfolio risk oversight.
- Strong understanding of debt syndications, private credit, and structured finance.
- Familiarity with credit derivatives and synthetic exposures advantageous.
- Strong financial modelling and valuation expertise.
- Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
