Position Summary:

The Marketing Manager is responsible for leading and implementing marketing and communication strategies that support the mission, programs, and services of The Salvation Army Kroc Center. This role oversees brand standards, voice, and style to ensure consistency across all communications, while developing creative marketing solutions tailored to the center’s needs. 

The ideal candidate is not only a strong marketer but also an experienced team leader, capable of managing and inspiring a small creative team. They have proven success in fast-paced environments, strong leadership and communication skills, the ability to balance creativity with strategy, and they must be able to work on a variety of long-term projects and also be willing to take on urgent, mission critical projects when required. The Marketing Manager is responsible for implementing and producing design solutions, including social media and online communications and marketing, in collaboration with the Team of Directors. This leadership role will contribute to the overall culture of The Kroc Center through creative ideas, teamwork, and a commitment to continuous improvement, always striving to enhance the center’s overall wellbeing. 

Duties And Responsibilities:

  • Provides leadership and direction to the Marketing Team, overseeing all marketing and communication channels, including the website, social media, print materials, digital assets, video, and on-site signage and branding.  
  • In conjunction with Center Director and Assistant Center Director, plans, develops and implements brand and advertising strategies and marketing programs for internal clients. 
  • Serves as collaborative liaison between the Marketing Department and other internal departments, providing regular updates on campaigns, programs, and activities to ensure alignment across the organization. 
  • Oversee marketing communication projects from concept through completion, according to marketing plan and internal customer requests. This includes Kroc Center marketing campaigns including but not limited to Program Guides, Church at The Kroc, Families Feeding Families, Kettles, Clothe a Child, Flannel Fest, and Camps. 
  • Develop promotional marketing materials and coordinates compatibility of marketing programs with public relations activities. Requires advertising and publishing knowledge, as well as proficient writing and analytical skills. 
  • Writes, edits, and distributes copy to be used for marketing flyers, brochures, program and event descriptions, newsletters, email newsletters, publications, press releases, website content, advertising and other media that is effective, culturally appropriate, and tasteful while maintaining a unified “Kroc Voice”. 
  • Maintains the Kroc Center website by ensuring content is accurate, user-friendly, and on-brand; guides marketing staff on timely updates, monitors performance, and implements improvements that reflect evolving design trends.
  • Oversees Kroc Center social media channels by shaping content strategy, voice, and brand consistency; supervises and supports Marketing team staff responsible for daily posting and engagement; ensures content calendars are maintained, and messages are responded to accurately and in a timely manner. 
  • Leads marketing team in conceptualizing, planning, and implementing community events at The Kroc Center, in partnership with leadership and event committees. 
  • Works with Director of Development on Fundraising Mail Appeals and to plan annual Development marketing strategy and coordinate efforts. 
  • Manages the marketing budget, tracks marketing expenses, and ensures effective use of resources. 
  • Direct involvement and support of the continued evolution of Traction Rec and UPace point-of-sale and eCommerce software platforms, ensuring optimal user experience and alignment with marketing strategies. 
  • Collaborate with other Kroc Centers to share best practices and provide guidance as needed, including supporting the Western Territory Kroc Center Virtual Marketing Team (VMT) with territorial marketing campaigns. 
  • Tracks marketing campaign results, review market research, analyze trends, and recommend changes to marketing strategies based on analysis and feedback. 
  • Assists facilitation of an annual communication audit across all departments to ensure effective use of communication and marketing channels. 
  • Adheres to Kroc Center brand and marketing standards, ensuring the production of high-quality, error-free copy that communicates The Salvation Army Kroc Center’s mission, activities, and services. 

Other responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Familiarity with key marketing tools, including PR, written communication, website development, market research, visual communication, and creative services.
  • Thinking creatively to produce new ideas while following guidelines of brand standards.
  • Multi-tasking: designers often work on more than one design project at a time.
  • Producing accurate and high-quality work.
  • Contributing ideas and design artwork.
  • Working well in a team, with printers, internal team members, photographers, other designers and category managers.
  • Manage contact databases
  • Write web/print content and articles to promote services, events, and programs.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines while ensuring quality and accuracy of work.
  • Assist in writing, designing, and programming promotional marketing email communications.
  • Ability to work odd hours to accommodate special event needs.
  • Possesses sensitivity and awareness of diverse cultural perspectives and the ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Give input and recommendations for process and environment improvements.
  • Conduct project meetings with internal clients in positive and professional manner.
  • Be team player—taking on a variety of roles to support the overall efforts of the Marketing Department and The Kroc Center.
  • Other tasks as assigned.

General Qualifications And Proficiencies:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience, preferably in marketing, graphic design, communications, public relations or related degree and 4+ years of experience working in the field of marketing, advertising, communication, journalism, publishing, or public relations.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience with ad agency or in-house marketing team.
  • Strong understanding of graphic design standards, concepts, terms, and technical capabilities.
  • Strong skill with design applications including current Adobe suite.
  • Technical Skills (per design industry standards)
  • Exceptional hands-on knowledge of all industry-leading design applications.
  • Microsoft Office including Excel.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully multitask multiple projects.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Solid organizational and directional skills.
  • Current design portfolio
  • Possesses sensitivity and awareness of diverse cultural perspectives and the ability to work with diverse populations.

Must have the ability to thrive in a fast-paced advertising environment; Passion for effective design and creative/innovative thought-process; Must also have strong marketing intuition; Be detail oriented and have a high degree of accuracy. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of typography and print advertising; be customer focused, self-motivated with strong initiative, self-sufficient. 

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis.
  • Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers and reach overhead.
  • Ability to operate telephone.
  • Ability to operate a desktop computer.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
