About The Position

Golden State is looking for a Director to join our growing sports and entertainment organization. This is a critical leadership role responsible for overseeing all aspects of our revenue, from technical accounting to daily operations. In this role, you will be the key driver in building and scaling our revenue operations, ensuring accuracy in accordance with GAAP (ASC 606 and 605) and various non-GAAP reporting requirements for the sports industry. Additionally, you will lead a high-performing team, build strong partnerships across the company, and play a vital role in our financial success. This position reports to the Controller.

This is a full-time position based onsite in San Francisco, CA.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead all aspects of revenue recognition, including creating and/or reviewing technical accounting memos for ASC 606 and 605
  • Oversee and ensure the timely and accurate revenue month-end close and revenue reporting
  • Participate in contract reviews, advising on revenue recognition implications and potential risks
  • Ensure timely and accurate recording of all revenue transactions in support of multiple bases of accounting
  • Partner with the Accounts Receivable team to guide and instruct on billing mechanics
  • Serve as primary contact for financial audits related to revenue
  • Collaborate with FP&A to analyze revenue trends and explain changes
  • Work with business partners outside of accounting to understand products and services and align on contract reviews
  • Develop and maintain robust accounting policies, procedures, and controls
  • Lead, mentor, and grow a collaborative, high-performing revenue team
  • Drive process improvements and leverage strong communication skills to get buy-in across teams
  • Establish clear performance metrics (SLAs) to monitor revenue operations effectiveness
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Experience & Skills

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in Accounting, or equivalent work experience
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a revenue accounting leadership role
  • CPA certification (active or inactive) with deep expertise in ASC 606
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with advanced Excel skills (pivots, lookups, etc.)
  • Experience with Netsuite, Salesforce, and billing systems
  • Strong team-building and people leadership skills
  • Ability to proactively identify problems and deliver solutions
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written)
