Penguin Random House is seeking a new Associate to join our Strategy team. The Penguin Random House Strategy team is a fast-paced, collaborative team with a wide range of international experience across Publishing, Business Development, and Consulting. We work directly with the CEO and partner with teams across PRH in central departments, publishing divisions, and international territories to develop and implement strategic priorities to drive growth and impact. Our scope is an ever-evolving mix of topics at the center of Publishing.  Each project brings unique insight and exposure to the inner-workings of Penguin Random House and our parent company, Bertelsmann – and the opportunity to make meaningful contributions to the success of our global publishing company.  

As the Associate, you will play a critical role in supporting and advancing high-priority projects. The ideal candidates will take on a variety of responsibilities across topics (e.g., supporting project management, conducting research and analysis, contributing creative ideas, storytelling). This role is a great fit for someone who is curious, organized, and collaborative, with strong analytical and communication skills. You thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment, are eager to learn about the publishing landscape, and are motivated to help drive projects forward and deliver meaningful results.

This role is fully onsite in our New York City office and works collaboratively across multiple geographies.

Specific Responsibilities Include:

  • Project Support, Management and Ownership
  • Drive project management for high-priority initiativesTrack timelines and follow-ups across multiple workstreams and synthesize discussions into actionable next steps
  • Prepare and refine meeting materials, briefing documents, and recaps
  • Monitor publishing industry developments, media trends, and macroeconomic factors affecting PRH’s business
  • Support and, over time, lead strategic business development projects in the US and globally
  • Drive project management for high-priority initiativesTrack timelines and follow-ups across multiple workstreams and synthesize discussions into actionable next steps
  • Prepare and refine meeting materials, briefing documents, and recaps
  • Monitor publishing industry developments, media trends, and macroeconomic factors affecting PRH’s business
  • Support and, over time, lead strategic business development projects in the US and globally
  • Stakeholder Management
  • Support with the preparation of quarterly shareholder materials, collaborating with the CEO, CSO, CFO, and Finance departments across 10+ international businesses
  • Coordinate and help with the creation of materials for internal Board meetings
  • Monitor inbound Shareholder requests, ensuring completion of deliverables
  • Partner with market research experts to provide insights and strategic planning recommendations
  • Deliver data-driven insights to a broad range of business leaders that tell a story and help to drive strategic decision-making 
  • Support with the preparation of quarterly shareholder materials, collaborating with the CEO, CSO, CFO, and Finance departments across 10+ international businesses
  • Coordinate and help with the creation of materials for internal Board meetings
  • Monitor inbound Shareholder requests, ensuring completion of deliverables
  • Partner with market research experts to provide insights and strategic planning recommendations

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience through internships and/or practical work in consulting, finance, business development, or a related field
  • Strong understanding of corporate financial principles
  • Exceptionally organized, detail-oriented, solution-driven team player
  • Strong analytical skills and comfort with financial statements
  • Skilled at synthesizing and visualizing information in PowerPoint for a range of audiences using data visualization tools
  • Strong communicator (both written and verbal) and able to bring structure to ambiguity and clarity to complexity
  • Curious, resourceful, and motivated to learn through doing 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or media experience a plus
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple, competing projects simultaneously, without losing sight of highest priority items or attention to detail
  • Professional demeanor with strong written and verbal English communication skills
  • Including developing coherent, concise communications
  • Assertive and diplomatic; able to manage stakeholders across the organization with influence
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office

Penguin Random House National Headquarters is located in New York City. This is a full-time, office-based position at our 1745 Broadway location.

The salary range for this role is $80,000–$90,000, commensurate with experience. All positions are currently eligible for an annual profit award or bonus, subject to Company performance.
