Job Description
To oversee and manage the daily operations of NEXTDC’s facilities, ensuring optimal performance and reliability. This includes the supervision of third-party contractors and the maintenance of all critical infrastructure in alignment with Uptime Institute Operational Sustainability Gold standards. The role is responsible for implementing industry best practices and delivering high-quality outcomes that meet the expectations of NEXTDC and its Hyperscale customers.
Your Responsibilities Are:
- Support Facility and Services Managers in the operation and maintenance of critical infrastructure, ensuring alignment with NEXTDC standards.
- Act as SME for communications infrastructure including cabling, power monitoring, rack locking, and environmental monitoring.
- Monitor critical systems via BMS, diagnose issues, escalate incidents, and ensure timely resolution.
- Manage customer provisioning requests, coordinating third-party contractors to meet quality and SLA targets.
- Oversee provisioning workloads, contractor scheduling, and staffing budgets.
- Lead cabling capacity planning to ensure availability and SLA compliance.
- Ensure carrier and private cabling installations meet Australian standards.
- Review and approve change requests under NEXTDC’s change management process.
- Identify and manage risks across WHS, security, and technical operations.
- Support maintenance, equipment handling, and uphold facility cleanliness and safety.
- Contribute to process improvement and documentation of workflows and policies.
- Deliver training, mentor staff, and support team development.
- Provide SME-level technical guidance and contribute to reporting and operational improvements.
- Participate in on-call support and complete ad hoc tasks as required.
About You:
- Customer Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a strong track record in managing customer interactions and resolving escalations.
- Analytical & Organisational Skills: Strong planning, problem-solving, and analytical capabilities to support efficient operations.
- Data Centre Operations: In-depth knowledge of data centre environments, including rack management, IT installations, cooling, and power infrastructure.
- Cabling & QA: Solid understanding of structured cabling systems, cable management best practices, and quality assurance processes.
- Technical Proficiency: Skilled in Microsoft Office; working knowledge of Building Management Systems (BMS) and monitoring tools (preferred).
- Frameworks & Standards: Familiar with ITIL practices, high-density power systems, and energy-efficient cooling technologies.
- Certifications: Relevant electrical or telecommunications installation/testing qualifications (desirable).
Qualifications
- 5+ years of proven experience in data centre facilities management or similar mission-critical environments.
- Experience in a senior technical role within multidisciplinary teams.
- NV1 Security Clearance (current or eligible to obtain and maintain) – essential.
- Knowledge of Uptime Institute (UTI) and ASHRAE standards.
- Trade Certificate, Diploma, or Degree in an electrical or mechanical discipline (desirable).
