Job Description
AbbVie is at the forefront of cancer research, discovering and developing the next generation of treatments to address unmet medical need for cancer patients. Our robust pipeline includes both small molecule and biologic therapies, featuring first-in-class agents that target multiple pathways critical to the survival and growth of solid and hematological malignancies.
We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Scientist with a proven track record of research accomplishments to join our growing cancer research organization. The scientist will be part of a team dedicated to discovering and validating novel cancer targets and support discovery programs in Immuno-Oncology, from early to late stages.
Key Responsibilities
- Independently conceive and execute hypothesis driven research projects in the field of Immuno-Oncology
- Apply expertise in T cell biology and anti-tumor immunity to identify and validate new immunotherapy drug targets.
- Develop innovative ex vivo and in vitro assays to study the functions and interactions of immune and tumor cell populations.
- Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams within AbbVie and with external partners.
- Train and mentor colleagues on established methodologies, troubleshooting assays, and developing novel techniques.
- Make impactful contributions to both short- and long-term scientific strategies of the research team.
- Prepare clear, compelling scientific presentations and reports for internal meetings, external collaborators, scientific conferences, and peer-reviewed journals.
Qualifications
Basic:
- PhD, MS, or BS in Cancer Research, Immunology, or a related field, with typically 0-5+ (PHD), 8-10+ (MS), or 10-12+ (BS) years post-graduate experience.
- Demonstrated scientific achievements, such as publications or patents.
- Extensive laboratory experience in Immunology/Oncology, with deep expertise in innate and adaptive immune cell biology, signaling, and tumor/immune cell interactions; expertise in T cell biology is preferred.
- Expertise designing and carrying out in vitro assays to study the functions and interactions of immune and tumor cell populations.
- Ability to develop novel assays and cellular models for exploring Immuno-Oncology biology, with proficiency in standard biochemical, cellular, and molecular techniques including flow cytometry.
- Programming skills (R, Python) and experience analyzing single-cell RNA sequencing data sets are preferred.
- Experience with CRISPR-based gene editing or genetic medicine approaches (siRNA/mRNA) a plus.
- Experience training and mentoring junior scientists.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to engage team members and collaborators.
- Adaptability to fast-paced, multi-disciplinary, and matrixed environments.
- Strong enthusiasm and passion for innovative scientific research.

Position will be filled at level commensurate with extent of education, experience, and accomplishment - Senior Scientist I or Senior Scientist II.
