A Traffic Systems Technician II job is available with the City of Fort Worth Transportation and Public Works department within the Traffic Management Division. Do you enjoy working in a fast-paced environment and interacting with residents, contractors, and customers? Would you like to improve the safety of the citizens and visitors to Fort Worth? The section is seeking a Traffic Systems Technician I to install, repair and maintain the streetlight system for the city. The successful candidate will be required to work outside, during inclement weather, at night and on weekends for special events or emergency call-backs, and heights of at least 30 feet.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School diploma/GED with additional specialized training in traffic signal systems and/or electrical wiring
  • Three (3) years of increasingly responsible electronic and/or electrical experience in the repair and maintenance of electronic equipment and/or traffic signal and street lighting systems
  • Valid driver's license
  • Possession of Class “B” Commercial Driver’s License or the ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire date
  • Must pass Drug Screen and Physical

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Work Zone/Flagger Training
  • Ability to operate a Bucket Truck
  • Ability to operate a Derrick Digger

The Traffic Systems Technician II job responsibilities include: 

  • Planning, designing, installing, repairing, and maintaining the pavement markings, signs, and streetlights for the City of Fort Worth
  • Work with minimal supervision
  • Installation, repair and maintenance of traffic control systems, and specifically streetlights
  • Operate various specialized tools and equipment related to traffic control system maintenance

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, repetitive motions, climbing, balancing, pushing, pulling and lifting; depending on assignment. Incumbents may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting and intense noises. 

Medium work – Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects.
