SMX is seeking a skilled Senior-level MC2 System Administrator to support 24x7 operations within the Patuxent River Data Center under the NAWCAD DNA division. This position focuses on mission-critical system availability, compliance, and operational integrity supporting end users and enterprise infrastructure at the Patuxent River Naval Air Station. This role provides significant opportunity for growth and technical leadership within a high-visibility environment.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a senior member of the MC2 operations team supporting 24x7 monitoring and maintenance of complex systems across multiple network enclaves.
  • Lead advanced troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and performance tuning across Windows and Unix/Linux environments.
  • Apply monthly maintenance, patching, and STIG remediation to ensure compliance and mitigate vulnerabilities.
  •  Administer and maintain system monitoring tools ensuring accurate alerting, event correlation, and response documentation.
  • Conduct physical security checks, access audits, and assist with data center cabling, installation, and configuration of hardware.
  • Maintain and update operational SOPs, diagrams, and configuration documentation.
  • Monitor and manage incident and service request queues, ensuring timely escalation and resolution in accordance with established SLAs.
  • Provide expert technical support to junior system administrators and act as a subject matter expert for critical mission systems.
  • Execute PowerShell and Bash scripting for automation of common tasks and reporting.
  • Other duties as assigned by Data Center Management.

Required Skills:

  • Clearance Required: Secret 
  • Ability to obtain a Top Secret is required
  • Minimum 5–7 years of IT systems administration or data center operations experience supporting DoD or enterprise environments.
  • Strong proficiency with Windows Server administration (Active Directory, GPO, SFTP, token administration).
  • Working knowledge of Unix/Linux systems and command-line operations.
  • Deep understanding of DoD Information Assurance standards, STIG compliance, ACAS scan review, and vulnerability remediation.
  • Demonstrated experience in maintaining 24x7 operational uptime and supporting critical systems in a secure environment.
  • Excellent documentation skills and ability to maintain audit-ready configuration and change records.
  • DoD 8570 IAT Level II compliance (Security+ CE, CySA+, CCNA Security, GSEC, or equivalent).
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across multiple technical teams.
  • Ability to obtain a Top Secret is required

Desired Skills:

  • Advanced PowerShell, Python, or Bash scripting.
  • Familiarity with virtualization and backup/recovery operations.
  • Understanding of network fundamentals and troubleshooting (TCP/IP, DNS, VLANs).
  • Prior experience within a government or defense data center environment.
  • Strong time management, initiative, and ability to operate independently during non-business hours.
