The Team
Hiscox Iberia has a full team based in Madrid consisting of mainly sales and technical underwriting teams, claims teams, marketing and compliance, as well as an established underwriting centre in Lisbon with around 20 people in various underwriting positions working for the Spanish and Portuguese Business. This is an exciting opportunity to become an integral member of the Financial Lines Team. The volume of business is rising rapidly and career opportunities are excellent should individuals demonstrate the skills and success in their roles.
The development plan for Hiscox Iberia is very ambitious for the next few years and it is expected that the team will grow at the same pace as the business.
The Role:
Working within the Hiscox Underwriting Team, you will be accountable for underwriting and renewing new and existing existing Financial Lines and Specialty Commercial policies for our Spanish business, focused on our broker channel and on larger and/or more complex cases. You will actively identify opportunities to cross-sell and have a strong focus on building rapport with, and delivering a superb service to our broker partners.
Key Responsibilities:
- Underwrite, price and negotiate accounts consistent with the quality of the risk and guidelines for all financial lines products
- Develop new relationships and maintain existing relationships with brokers
- Work with operations, claims, finance and internal and external marketing to help build products and contribute to the financial performance of the business unit
- Maintain excellent service standards
- Monitor product results and develop ideas to increase productivity and profitability
- Maximize the retention of existing renewals and handle mid-term adjustments on existing business
- Contribute to growing the existing business income through cross-sell and up-sell
- To deal quickly and efficiently with requests from Brokers
- To effectively negotiate with both internal and external parties including identified points of contact within a brokerage
- Maintain profitability of the book of business by making sound and consistent individual underwriting decisions
- To identify and challenge non-standard underwriting decisions within the Technical Underwriting Guide (TUG) with a reasoned Referral to a product expert or referral point
- To regularly challenge convention, writing ‘non-standard’ business and able to take decisive action on loss-making business
- Take ownership of the performance of your region’s account, identifying non performing accounts in terms of key performance indicators (e.g. retention and profitability) and take appropriate action or flag with the relevant people
