Senior Technical Writer and Documentation Specialist – Federal Legacy Healthcare/Electronic Medical Record Systems

Our work depends on a senior technical writer and documentation specialist (Technical Writer) joining our team to support our Federal Legacy EHR software development and support contract. This a remote-based role. The candidate must live in the U.S.
At GDIT, we put our people first. As a Senior Technical Writer supporting Indian Health Services you will be trusted to work with clinicians, developers, and federal staff to review, edit, revise, remediate, and maintain user and technical documents and online help files, based on user documentation for clinical Legacy applications.
How You will Make an Impact:
- Understand and apply customer-specified formats for different types of documents.
- Familiar with Indian Health Service (IHS) style guide and templates for a variety of documents.
- Convert outdated documents, in either PDF or Word form, to current format.
- Use multiple word processing and presentation tools such as MS Word, PowerPoint, and Visio, etc.
- Work closely with project teams to ensure documentation accurately represents the software application.
- Create and maintain online help files.
- Work closely with technical teams to upload online help files into software.
- Work on all phases of documentation.
- Write and edit the following documents and artifacts:
- User Guides
- Installation Guides
- Configuration Guides
- Setup Guides
- Release Notes
- Online Help
- Security Manuals
- User Guides
- Installation Guides
- Configuration Guides
- Setup Guides
- Release Notes
- Online Help
- Security Manuals
- Review and amend all documentation to ensure compliance with Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act.
- Maintain current knowledge of relevant technology and best practices relevant to the industry.
- Participate in special projects as required.
What You Will Need to Succeed:
- 5+ years of experience as a technical writer/editor supporting the documentation needs of the Indian Health Service.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline from an accredited college or university is required.
- Technical Writing Certificate from an accredited college or university is required.
- Advanced working knowledge of MS Word, Adobe RoboHelp, Adobe Acrobat Pro, and Snagit.
- Strong working knowledge of MS Paint, Visio, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Outlook.
- Working knowledge of Azure DevOps.
- Proficiency in remediating all documentation to ensure compliance with Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act.
- Experience with Federal Health IT, Indian Health Service RPMS, EHR systems, Practice Management Application Suite, and Meaningful Use.
- Proficient experience with the Indian Health Service RPMS and/or Veterans Administration VistA EHR systems.
- Demonstrated relevant work experience in developing new content by working with software developers, software testers and technical Team Leads.
- Demonstrated ability to explain technical issues clearly/accurately to technical/non-technical audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative team with adjusting priorities and deadlines.
- Proven ability to work on a remote/distributed team.
Preferred Skills:
- Working knowledge of MS Excel
- Experience with Adobe PageMaker, HCL (Lotus) Notes, and FullShot is a plus.
- Familiarity with Agile Methodology and scrums is a plus.
- Experience with the following is a plus: designing and writing online procedures, job aids, policies and procedures, Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) online standards and procedures, run guides, and quick reference cards.
Location: Remote within the USA
Clearance Level: Requires the ability to pass an IHS background check and meet the residency requirement of having resided in the US for at least (3) three out of the past (5) five years in order to obtain and maintain an appropriate level Public Trust clearance.

The likely salary range for this position is $65,450 - $88,550. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.Scheduled Weekly Hours:
