According to prescribed policies and procedures of the organization including all applicable state, federal and accreditation regulations and under the general supervision of the EVP External Affairs & Strategic Partnerships, the Senior Director of Philanthropy is responsible for cultivating and soliciting donors interested in supporting various program areas with emphasis on residents and supporters of Senior Living campuses: The role will oversee all fundraising on Senior Living campuses and the Volunteer Service Program.
Essential Functions
- Works closely with the Senior Director, Donor Relations and Grants Management to develop and implement organizational fundraising strategies and to co-lead the Foundation team.
- Identifies, cultivates, solicits, and stewards major gift donors and prospects.
- Actively engages in working to establish long-term relationships and strengthening existing donor. relationships with a special focus on individual relationships and assigned corporations and Foundations.
- Oversees special campaign initiatives including the development of solicitation strategies, materials, etc.
- Cultivates and solicits assigned individual donors and prospects for major/planned gifts.
- Acts as Foundation Director in assigned communities in stewarding gifts according to donor intentions.
- Assists with developing a case for support for priority projects.
- Oversees donor management database and other fundraising software tools.
- Works with the Senior Foundation and Volunteer Services Coordinator to develop strategies that leverage volunteer partnerships into financial philanthropic partnerships.
- Cultivates and maintains strong communication links with assigned donors and prospects.
- Supports efforts to develop a “culture of philanthropy” philosophy throughout the organization by encouraging and supporting fundraising activities in the field.
- Develops strong relationships within communities to foster a positive image of National Church Residences and encourage support of our mission.
- Demonstrates and maintains a positive, professional manner, manages time efficiently and effectively, provides leadership as a role model to promote a team approach, collaborates a participates in policy creation and appropriate problem-solving methods.
- Must adhere to all policies, procedures, terms and conditions set forth in the National Church Residences’ Employee Information Guide (EIG) as well as any facility handbook including but not limited to corporate compliance, drug free workplace, safe work practices, all federal, state, local regulations and laws.
- With respect to Client Rights, ensures all care is provided with respect and dignity for clients, reports all complaints made by clients and/or families to the appropriate supervisors, reports all allegations of abuse, misappropriation of funds/client property and/or any other corporate compliance, drug free workplace, safe work practices, all federal, state, local regulations and laws.

Job Specification Sheet – Senior Director Of Philanthropy
- Must have a Bachelors degree in a relevant area. Masters degree preferred.
- Minimum five years of progressively responsible fundraising or non-profit management experience including successful work in major gifts/grants
- Must be willing to travel
- Must have exceptional written, verbal, analytical, leadership, and interpersonal skills
- Strong ability to establish objectives, set performance standards, and organize successful approaches to achieving fundraising goals. A proven track record of solid relationship building both internal and external constituencies. Demonstrated knowledge of grant writing. Understanding of donor databases and wealth screening tools. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
