But it's about so much more than badges to us, it's about being recognised by our people for the continuous work we do to do better for them.
About Our Opportunity
As demand for sustainable high quality recycled materials grows, we are looking for a Material Process Development Engineer with strong mineral processing experience to join our Central Engineering Team, based in Birmingham, UK. This team leads the development of processes for the separation of complex metal rich mixed material streams to produce a range of different metals, plastics and other materials. We operate at large scale, handling 10 million tonnes a year across our international operations and deploy a range of physical separation techniques largely adapted from the minerals industry.
You’ll be joining a business with a strong industrial heritage and a forward-thinking mindset—investing in new technologies, prioritising safety, and continually improving operations. In this role, you’ll play a critical part in that transformation, working closely with regional and site leaders to drive improvements in separation efficiency, material quality and profitability.
Working as part of an experienced team, the work you do will define the next generation of our separation processes and deliver the sustainable materials that are an essential part of the circular economy.
What You Will Be Doing
• Characterising materials, including taking, preparing & analysing samples
• Designing and carrying out test work
• Preparing interpretive reports
• Developing process flow sheets and mass balances
• Sizing & specifying equipment
• Preparing preliminary financial evaluations
• Developing expertise in a range of separation techniques
• Working with operational colleagues to lead or support process improvement projects
About You
You’re an experienced mineral processing engineer with an inquisitive mind who likes investigating and solving process challenges and enjoys the satisfaction of seeing the process that you developed delivering improvements in profitability.
You’ll bring:
• A degree in mineral processing, or closely related subject
• Relevant experience in industrial mineral processing
• A track record in material characterisation and design of new processes
• A desire to apply your knowledge and expertise to the supply of sustainable materials by a company at the heart of the circular economy
Who we are:
Our purpose is to create a future where the materials we use don’t need to be extracted from the planet.’
At EMR, we give new life to unwanted materials. Every year, we recycle 10 million tonnes of metals and plastics, saving 19 million tonnes of carbon from entering the Earth’s atmosphere, diverting waste from landfill and protecting resources and habitats.
We couldn’t do any of this without our team members. In return for all they do, we do everything we can to create an environment of belonging, value, support and growth.
