We’re looking for Junior Mechanical Engineering Technologists to join our growing engineering team at Fleetway. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to Canada’s National Shipbuilding Strategy, supporting the Royal Canadian Navy through the design and delivery of complex marine systems and structures.
As a Junior Mechanical Technologist, you’ll gain hands-on experience working alongside experienced engineers and technologists on complex systems that directly impact the Navy’s operational readiness. From 3D modeling and technical drawings to systems integration and structural analysis, you’ll contribute to real-world solutions that help keep Canada’s fleet mission-ready.

- Assist in developing and interpreting 3D models of equipment, foundations, piping systems (e.g., valves, fittings, hangers), and structural components such as decks and bulkheads for client vessels.
- Support the creation and interpretation of 2D engineering drawings, including parts, assemblies, installations, and arrangement drawings (e.g., general arrangements, firefighting key plans, piping diagrams, and power system schematics).
- Apply technical knowledge to review vessel documentation, support vessel surveys, and help validate legacy records.
- Participate in the review and implementation of Engineering Changes (ECs), contributing to updates in ship systems, equipment configurations, and documentation.
- Assist in managing configuration changes that support the introduction of new capabilities or the sustainment of existing systems.
- Contribute to option analysis reports, help define system requirements, and perform basic engineering calculations.
- Support the development of impact assessments, technical specifications, and equipment selection processes.
- Assist in writing technical reports and documentation for internal and client use.
- Help develop technical studies, drawings, and specifications for government and commercial vessels.
- Participate in systems integration projects, working alongside senior engineers to ensure cohesive design solutions.
- Support structural design and analysis tasks under guidance, including exposure to tools such as finite element analysis (FEA), weight assessments, and stability evaluations (e.g., GHS).
Education & Experience
- A Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology or a related field.
- 0–2+ years of experience in a technical or engineering environment; recent graduates are encouraged to apply.
- Exposure to or training in 2D drafting, 3D modeling, and engineering design/integration projects.
Technical Skills
- Familiarity with ShipConstructor is considered an asset, but not required.
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, Word, and Outlook.
Professional Skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a collaborative mindset.
- Solid organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Experience working with Naval Warships or within the shipbuilding industry is considered an asset, but not required.
Due to the nature of our work, successful candidates must be eligible to obtain required government security clearances.
