UN Women’s India Country Office, based in New Delhi, India, works to accelerate the advancement of gender equality and the empowerment of women through the strengthening of strategic partnerships, technical and policy advisory services and advocacy with governmental, inter-governmental and civil society partners. In addition, UN Women India is charged with leading and coordinating the UN system’s work on gender equality, including through ensuring accountability for results.
Reporting to the Head of Communications, the Communications Consultant (Design and Social Media), supports the conceptualization and designing of UN Women India media products to increase the standing and awareness of UN Women with partners, the media and the public. The incumbent will also support in managing social media handles and administrative tasks for the Communications team.
Provide creative / design support in the development of a coherent India Country Office communications and advocacy material:
- Planning concepts and designs by studying relevant information and materials;
- Work on a range of projects, using various software programs to visualize and develop innovative graphic designs that meet India Country Office’s communication goals;
- Obtain input from programme units to ensure that designs meet organizational standards and brand expectations, express ideas accurately, and represent UN Women;
- Translate strategic direction into high-quality design within an established brand identity.
Conceptualize, Design And Layout Of:
- High-quality innovative, creative and attention-grabbing materials for web-based communications using full-page multimedia tool in English (or similar), and infographics, illustrations (in Hindi and English) for web-based campaign and advocacy;
- Provide support to design newsletters, brochures and print material;
- Provide excellent support in designing brochures and print material;
- Ensure communications material to highlight achievements of various programs, initiatives and campaigns;
- Design and support development of various reports and presentations.
Provide support to drive India CO’s social media presence and website:
- Gather information for the development of content for the India Country Office’s website and social media channels;
- Daily management of social media presence across Twitter/X, Facebook and Instagram including posting, tagging and sharing of relevant content. Drafting content for the Regional Office LinkedIn on behalf of ICO.
- Maintain files, databases, and systems relevant to the ICO’s digital presence; provide timely updates on engagement metrics and support social media reporting;
- Create digital content in line with the overall communication plan;
- Ideate and support team with innovative ways to showcase UN Women work on social media/website.
Facilitate Knowledge Management And Sharing:
- Contribute to the identification of best practices and lessons learned;
- Provide/ exchange information with other COs/RO.
Other Related Tasks:
- Perform other tasks as assigned by supervisor;
- Provide support on special web/digital/media projects undertaken by the India Country Office;
- Work independently as well as cooperatively with teams to meet deadlines and schedule project implementation based on workload, which may include five or more simultaneous projects.

Functional Competencies:
- Ability to create, edit and present information in clear and presentable formats, using appropriate IT functionality
- Knowledge of social media and communication strategies and tools

- Ability to identify relevant events and stories and communicate them to a mass audience
- Good multimedia skills
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in design, communications, public relations or journalism is an asset.
- A Masters degree in Communications is desirable.
Experience:
- At least 3 years of progressively responsible experience in providing design /creative support to the formulation and implementation of internal and external communications and advocacy strategies and related plans;
- Experience in the use of computers applications and software packages (Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Canva, and other relevant AI Design etc.) as well as web-based management systems;
- Experience in the use of social media and digital communication, and analytical tools like Hootsuite, Google Analytics.
Language Requirements:
- Fluency in English and Hindi is required;
- Working knowledge of the other UN official working language is an asset.
Evaluation And Selection Criteria:
The evaluation process for selection of the candidate will be based on the following assessment:
- Presentation based Interview – 70 Points
- Design and Writing Samples – 30 Points (please include link to design portfolio if available)
Please Note:
- For an assignment requiring travel, consultants of 65 years or more require full medical examination and statement of fitness to work to engage in the consultancy.
- Consultants are required to submit doctor's certificate to state fitness to work and travel for this assignment.
- Due to large number of potential applicants, only competitively selected candidates will be contacted for remaining steps of the service procurement process.
- The consultant is expected to use their own computer equipment. The office will not provide any computer equipment for this assignment.
- Travel and DSA will be booked and settled as per consultant contract norms directly by UN Women on submission of F-10 form with original ticket stubs, vouchers, etc. as per actuals.
