Job Summary:

The University of Colorado School of Medicine (CUSOM), Office of Medical Education is seeking a part-time (0.2 FTE) open rank faculty member to serve as the Course Director – Reproductive System & Life Cycle on the Office of Undergraduate Medical Education – Pre-Clerkship team.

Course directors are critical leaders in the education of medical students at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. Broadly, the responsibilities of this role include development and implementation of curriculum and experiences that introduce medical students to the core knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to develop into a competent physician. 

Responsibilities include course administration, curriculum development & execution, program innovation, assessment development, curriculum review, and student support, as well as course faculty recruitment, support, and development. 

Over the course of the year the time commitment of the Assistant Course Director is about 8 hours per week. However, the Assistant Course Director can expect that their work hours will be heavily weighted in the weeks prior to, during, and immediately after the course (~20 30hrs/week).

Supervision Received: The position will report to the Associate Dean, Pre-Clerkship Curriculum

Key Responsibilities:

Administration:

  • Assume responsibility for course’s orientation including content, scheduling, assessment, organization, and course execution.
  • Ensure syllabi, course materials, schedules, small group rosters (if applicable), and other content are of high quality, current, posted, easily accessible, and reflect the educational objectives and content being delivered.
  • Serve as a resource and communicate in a timely manner with students, administrative staff, and faculty.
  • Curriculum Execution and Program Innovation:
  • Provide oversight of curricula and programs with a focus on development and implementation of course goals and session-specific objectives, linking stated objectives to educational strategies and learner assessment.
  • Ensure all teaching faculty and students are aware and understand the course’s competencies and learning goals.
  • Ensure adherence to shared policies as developed by curriculum committees and OME leadership.
  • Modify existing or develop new curricula or methods of delivery based on needs, changing LCME requirements, and as charged by curriculum oversight bodies.
  • Actively participate in the development and maintenance of a curriculum map that includes goals, learning objectives, content, educational strategies and assessments.

Curriculum Review, Continuous Quality Improvement, and Accreditation  

  • Track, monitor, assess, and identify areas for improvement in the curriculum with the goal of continuous quality improvement or as dictated by the curriculum oversight bodies.
  • With the assistance of the OME Office of Assessment, Evaluation, and Outcomes, evaluate the effectiveness of the curriculum in achieving learning outcomes.
  • Provide and present course reports to the appropriate Curriculum Committees with the aid of the OME Office of Assessment, Evaluation, and Outcomes.
  • Meet with the appropriate Associate Dean to report on the progress of improvements in the course.
  • Provide data, descriptive information, and reports to communicate course content, instructional methods, assessment, and outcomes to support overall OME program and to ensure compliance with LCME standards and other reporting requirements (e.g., Curriculum Inventory).

Student Assessment, Support & Remediation

  • Set clear expectations for student performance and provide fair, effective formative and summative assessments.
  • Monitor reliability, validity, and alignment of exams with course objectives and content.
  • Identify students in academic or personal difficulty early, and coordinate with the Office of Student Life to develop and implement remediation plans.

Faculty Development & Collaboration

  • Recruit, mentor, and support faculty in delivering high-quality educational content, ensuring materials align with curricular goals.
  • Partner with OME and curriculum offices to address facilitator development needs and promote a professional learning climate.
  • Collaborate with Course, Content, and Pillar Directors to standardize curriculum, develop policies, share best practices, and ensure compliance with LCME standards.

Work Location:

Hybrid – this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule as needed for teaching and in-person meetings.

This is an open rank position and could be categorized as Instructor, Senior Instructor, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor based on experience and qualifications as indicated below:

Instructor:

  • Candidates must hold a terminal degree such as a PhD, MD or DO degree from an accredited University.
  • Candidates must be able to obtain a faculty appointment as an Instructor at the University of Colorado School of Medicine.
  • Experience in healthcare professions education, pedagogy, and medical education assessment

Senior Instructor:

  • Candidates must hold a terminal degree such as a PhD, MD or DO degree from an accredited University.
  • Candidates must be able to obtain a faculty appointment as a Senior Instructor at the University of Colorado School of Medicine.
  • Experience in healthcare professions education, pedagogy, and medical education assessment

Assistant Professor:

  • Candidates must hold a terminal degree such as a PhD, MD or DO degree from an accredited University.
  • Candidates must be able to obtain a faculty appointment as an Assistant Professor at the University of Colorado School of Medicine.

Associate Professor:

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Available for preferred start date: January 19, 2026
  • Experience in directing or coordinating pre-clerkship medical school courses and/or content for courses
  • Available to be present, as needed, for learning events throughout the course’s duration
  • Familiarity with LCME accreditation standards and requirements
  • Experience with simulation, active learning methodologies, or technology-enhanced learning

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

Instructor: The salary range for this position is up to $50,000 representing an estimated 0.20 FTE salary support plus benefits. The final offer will be capped at $250,000 annually and will depend on the individual’s current 1.0 FTE salary. 

Sr. Instructor: The salary range for this position is up to $50,000 representing an estimated 0.20 FTE salary support plus benefits. The final offer will be capped at $250,000 annually and will depend on the individual’s current 1.0 FTE salary. 

Assistant Professor: The salary range for this position is up to $50,000 representing an estimated 0.20 FTE salary support plus benefits. The final offer will be capped at $250,000 annually and will depend on the individual’s current 1.0 FTE salary.
