Staff Software Engineer, Vertex AI Search

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 8 years of experience in software development.
• 5 years of experience with Machine Learning (ML) design and ML infrastructure (e.g., model deployment, model evaluation, data processing, debugging, fine tuning).
• Experience in working with Unix/Linux environments, distributed and parallel systems, networking, architecting software systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
• 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role with leading project teams and setting technical direction.
• Experience in Artificial Intelligence (AI) concepts and in building AI applications.
• Experience with Large Language Models (LLMs), including fine-tuning, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and agent-based systems.
• Experience with the end-to-end lifecycle of AI-powered applications, from data ingestion to model serving and monitoring.

Responsibilities

• Be responsible for leading a team into building the next generation of Grounding on Web Search and unblock customers need to onboard on Vertex platforms.
• Work on designing, implementing, and maintaining critical systems that run the stack and advance its capabilities to scale to the customers needs.
• Build algorithms to improve Large Language Model (LLMs) and improve Search ranking.
• Improve model qualities to better serve grounded results. Build and train specialized models to improve quality of grounding stack.
