Job Duties
Virginia Energy is in search of a Geologist Specialist that will manage digital geologic data and produce digital geologic maps, geodatabases, and reports that support planning and construction projects, economic development, and the mitigation of geologic and environmental hazards. The Geologist will complete geologic mapping along the I-81 corridor and other areas, and will make this new information available to industry, government agencies, and the public.
This restricted position is contingent upon continued receipt of federal funds.

Minimum Qualifications
• Considerable knowledge of geology (particularly geomorphology, hydrology, sedimentology, and engineering geology) and geologic mapping experience.
• In-depth knowledge of field and digital mapping techniques.
• Ability to collect and interpret geologic data and communicate the results to the public, industry, and governmental agencies.
• Demonstrated ability to handle multiple responsibilities, organize tasks, and prioritize workflow.
• Strong computer skills, excellent communication and writing skills,
• Ability to work independently and as a team member,
• Ability to stoop, crawl, bend, and walk for long distances over rough terrain and carry up to 30 pounds.
• Considerable experience using ArcPro or related GIS software is required.
• A valid Driver’s License is required.
Additional Considerations
• Experience related to landslides, engineering geology, or geomorphology.
• Experience using and manipulating lidar data.
• Professional Geologist licensure preferred. If the candidate does not have a license or has a license from another state, the candidate should plan to progress to licensure during the first 12 months of employment.
