About The Job!

The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for supporting both legacy product and new product development. Works with staff to plan and design methods to maintain, improve or enhance existing manufacturing processes. Responsible for development and validation of new production processes as well as the upgrade of existing production processes and ensures effective transition in to production IAW GENTEX standard practices. Works with other manufacturing and engineering departments to ensure all new products are producible. Analyze and review manufacturing processes to ensure quality requirements, process lead-time and productivity targets can be met. 

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or Manufacturing or Industrial Technology
  • Certification/Certificate in Lean Manufacturing
  • Certified Six Sigma Green Belt from a recognized certification body (i.e. ASQ, IABLS, IQF) is desired, but not required
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience in Manufacturing Process Engineering is

desired, but not required

· 2+ years applying Lean Manufacturing principles in a manufacturing environment is desired, but not required

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities:

· Optimizing existing processes to improve productivity and yield

· Developing Tooling/Fixtures

  • Creating 2D and 3D CAD/CAE (SolidWorks, AutoCAD)
  • Measurement System Analysis (MSA)
  • Process Mapping methods (VSM, high/mid/low-level maps, swim-lane, SIPOC)
  • Capability Analysis (Cp/Cpk, DPMO, % Yield)
  • Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (PFMEA)
  • Control Methods (Mistake Proofing, Flags, SPC, Inspection, SOP and Warning Signals)
  • Project Planning, cross-function leader of teams involving internal stakeholders.
  • Cellular manufacturing, flow, pull, line balancing, standard work and time standards
  • Root Cause Analysis methods
  • Product/equipment Validation (i.e. IQOQPQ, PPAP)
  • Quality Management Systems (QMS) / Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)
  • Design and plan production pilot runs
  • Understands molding principles (i.e. compression, transfer, injection)
  • Excellent computer skills in MS Word, Excel, Access and Visio
  • Understands bill of material (BOM) and shop routing
  • Excellent oral/written communication and presentation skills
  • Self-motivated, results oriented, and can work prioritize workload with minimal supervision
  • Capable of managing multiple projects and tasks simultaneously and efficiently
  • Able to read and understand Engineering drawings (including GD&T)
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced comprehensive team environment

Responsibilities:

  Initiates and oversees Manufacturing Process Engineering work related to initial process, planning development and      qualification for new engineering designs

  • Initiates and oversees Manufacturing Process Engineering work related to researching, designing and developing machines, production fixtures, tools, or mechanical production equipment
  • Performs Manufacturing Process Engineering assignments as part of a team involved in planning, organizing, developing and implementing complicated projects relevant to manufacturing
  • Develops narratives for administrative and technical proposals regarding various manufacturing activities and capabilities
  • Creates and/or updates existing manufacturing standard procedures as necessary
  • Provide recommendations regarding manufacturing personnel training and equipment requirements
  • Develops initial and final production readiness plans for new designs
  • Provides key process inputs for Production Readiness Reviews (PRR) as necessary
  • Evaluates producibility of new designs through application/implementation of various process techniques and equipment capability studies
  • Reports findings and alternative design recommendations to the Engineering Department as necessary
  • Works to meet quality and productivity goals for established or planned processes
  • Establish engineering control procedures to ensure Manufacturing Process Instructions are understandable, on-line, up to date and ready for production
  • Works in conjunction with engineering to develop consistent and repeatable processes that can be quantified by use of statistics or other verification and validation tools.
  • Lead continuous improvement implementation and productivity improvement
  • Promotes an atmosphere of excellence, high sense of urgency, high energy and exceptional communication
  • Conducts Time and Motion studies for new and existing processes 
  • Performs plant and workstation layout.
