Job Description
We are seeking Senior Systems Engineering Analysts to join our System-of-Systems (SoS) Engineering Team, supporting the Canadian Armed Forces’ Land C5ISR-T (Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Cyber, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance – Targeting) program.
This initiative delivers a highly integrated tactical system comprised of communication systems such as radios and telephony, core networking systems that connect intelligence and surveillance assets, battle management systems that enable streamlined operations, and information management systems that process large amounts and types of data. As a key member of the Systems team, you will play a pivotal role in defining the architecture and overarching design of this complex “System-of-Systems.”
Based in either our Ottawa or Calgary facility, the ideal candidate would undertake a number of different initiatives, including (but not limited to) developing system requirements, modelling the system using MBSE techniques, and contextualizing the operational use cases of the system.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work with the customer, the Department of National Defence (DND) to elicit and define operational requirements and desired capabilities.
- Develop activity, sequence, use case, and block definition diagrams to describe mission scenarios and use cases.
- Develop system requirements, interface specifications, and end-to-end information flows.
- Manage the traceability of higher-level requirements to lower-level requirements and to test artifacts.
- Utilize Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) techniques to develop Operational and System Views according to DNDAF and UAF.
- Support testing activities including verification and validation of requirements, writing test cases, and producing Verification Cross Reference Matrices (VCRMs).
- Present status updates and conduct reviews with internal and external stakeholders.
- Assume responsibility for deliverables and work products, and ensure you are meeting program commitments and achieving program milestones.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, or applicable scientific discipline is required.
- 8+ years of applicable system engineering or related experience.
- Experience working with complex systems, specifically at a System-of-Systems level.
- Extensive experience deriving, writing, and linking requirements in a database.
- Experience utilizing MBSE techniques and tools to model complex systems.
- Demonstrated initiative and strong verbal and written communications skills.
- The ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment.
- Passion for mentorship and sharing knowledge.
- Demonstrated capability of meeting commitments and delivering high quality work products.
- Knowledge of the trends in the needs of the military and of the operational context of deployed soldiers.
Assets:
- Experience developing cloud-based networks and infrastructure.
- Experience with the automation of server builds and deployment.
- Experience with system security for networks, endpoints, and application/data levels.
- Experience designing virtualization and containerization systems.
- Service (Reserve or Regular) in any branch of the Canadian Armed Forces.
- Experience with Agile ceremonies and work execution techniques (Scrum, PI Planning, Story Points, etc.).
- Extensive knowledge of Systems Engineering standards and best practices (such as INCOSE).
- Experience working with a government customer in a direct or indirect capacity.
It is a requirement that General Dynamics Mission Systems-Canada be registered with the Canadian Controlled Goods program and that all of its workforce be security assessed.
