We have an exciting opportunity at Penguin Random House for a Legal Operations Associate, Litigation, to support our Legal Department! This team is responsible for tackling a wide variety of challenges associated with being a global publisher.  

The ideal candidate has prior experience as a litigation paralegal; experience with or the ability to master e-discovery tools, AI-based operations tools, and internal systems; excellent organizational and communication skills, especially with respect to communicating and managing deadlines; and experience with managing legal operations (including internal processes, workflow, and systems). 

Specific Responsibilities Include:

  • Drafting: Prepare the first draft of various litigation related documents, including responses & objection to subpoenas, interrogatory responses, settlement agreements, and responses to cease & demand letters. Familiarity with AI based tools like GCAI to support this workstream is a plus. 
  • E-discovery: Collect and prepare documents for production in connection with ongoing litigation and liaise with our e-discovery vendor(s).  
  • Project management: Take charge of organizing and proactively communicating (1) key matter deadlines; (2) records of prior document productions; (3) internal tracking documents. Act as the first point of contact for external vendors and manage vendor agreements.  
  • Legal technology: Assist with legal technology maintenance by mastering internal systems, troubleshooting basic issues, and supporting the implementation of new tools and processes.  
  • Operational leadership: Identify process inefficiencies within the legal department. Propose, develop and assist in implementing process improvements, including testing and implementing new technologies as appropriate.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and AI tools 
  • Minimum 2 years of working in a legal, technology, publishing, or media office environment; working as a paralegal (paralegal certificate not required), or legal operations a plus

The salary range for this position is $56,000-$60,000.  All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to Company results.  

 
This is a hybrid position with in-office responsibilities. We will consider candidates who can work from a commutable distance to our offices at 1745 Broadway, which includes the tri-state area (NJ, CT, & PA).
