Position Summary

Sony Honda Mobility of America Inc. (SHMA) is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join our Finance team in Culver City, CA. This is a high-impact role for a seasoned accounting professional who thrives in dynamic, fast-paced environments and is eager to help build strong financial foundations for a growing organization. 

As a Senior Accountant, you will play a hands-on role in supporting and shaping core accounting operations while ensuring accuracy across multiple key areas. We are seeking a candidate with 10+ years of progressive accounting experience and proven depth in at least three of the following: General Ledger (GL), Accounts Receivable (AR), Accounts Payable (AP), Inventory & Cost Accounting, Fixed Assets, and Expense. 

This role requires not only technical depth but also the ability to design and build processes from scratch. The ideal candidate has direct experience developing an accounting cycle end-to-end, bringing both structure and discipline to financial operations in a startup-like environment. You’ll also play a key role in SHMA’s ERP implementation, supporting rollout and ensuring smooth post-go-live operations. 

Job Responsibilities

Operational Accounting

  • Provide hands-on support across multiple accounting areas including GL, AR, AP, Inventory & Cost, Fixed Assets, and Expense. 
  • Prepare and post journal entries; perform reconciliations; and support monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes. 
  • Create and maintain financial schedules, ensuring compliance with U.S. GAAP/IFRS. 
  • Collaborate with AP Specialists and Finance team members to ensure accurate, end-to-end accounting operations. 
  • Support internal and external audit requests with accurate, timely documentation. 

Process & System Development

  • Develop and implement a full accounting cycle from scratch, including process design, system setup, and controls. 
  • Actively contribute to SHMA’s ERP implementation (Oracle preferred), assuming ownership of assigned modules during rollout and post-go-live. 
  • Assist in developing and documenting accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls. 
  • Identify process inefficiencies and propose practical, system-supported solutions for improved accuracy and efficiency. 
  • Participate in system testing, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement activities. 
  • Partner cross-functionally to ensure accounting practices align with business operations and organizational growth. 

Required Qualifications for Position

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. 
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience with detailed involvement in at least three areas: GL, AR, AP, Inventory & Cost Accounting, Fixed Assets, Expense. 
  • Proven experience developing an accounting cycle from scratch. 
  • Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and/or IFRS. 
  • Demonstrated success working in collaborative, team-oriented environments with a focus on shared goals. 
  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deliverables in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively across departments. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (advanced functions such as pivot tables, VLOOKUP, etc.) and solid computer literacy. 

Preferred Qualifications for Position

  • Experience with ERP systems (Oracle ERP strongly preferred). 
  • Familiarity with internal controls, accounting policy documentation, and audit preparation. 
  • CPA or CMA certification (or actively pursuing certification). 
  • Prior involvement in ERP implementation, system testing, or financial systems projects. 
  • Experience in a high-growth, startup-like environment. 

Additional Details

  • Work Arrangement: This is an on-site role based in Culver City, CA. 
  • Travel Requirements: Minimal, though occasional travel to other SHMA sites may be required. 
  • Visa Sponsorship: Not available for this position.

The anticipated annual base salary for this position is $125,000-$150,000. This range does not include any other compensation components or other benefits that an individual may be eligible for.  The actual base salary offered depends on a variety of factors, which may include as applicable, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.
