Job Description

The Executive Director of Security Operations is responsible for ensuring the overall safety of employees, guests and property with a commitment to extraordinary service standards.  A positive attitude and strong leadership abilities are paramount while providing guidance, support and oversight to the entire security department within a 5-star integrated resort.

Essential Duties:

  • Responsible for planning and directing all security activities on the Wynn/Encore property.  This often requires coordination with other hotel departments.
  • Develop and maintain operating budgets, capital improvements and other related fiscal responsibilities.
  • Develop security operational plans for significant special events.
  • Instill teamwork, mentor employees, and encourage success at every opportunity.
  • Monitor operations across the resort and observe all security staff, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and established policies. 
  • Monitor and ensure officers and management are fulfilling their essential functions and post orders.
  • Assist and provide guidance in resolving Security related calls for service of high priority, especially when crossing departmental lines.
  • Ensure consistency of all patron and employee interactions in accordance with Forbes 5-Star standards to maintain the integrity of the Wynn|Encore Las Vegas ambiance, while promoting hotel amenities and services.
  • Effectively deal with internal and external patrons, some of whom will require levels of patience, tact and diplomacy while working with Hotel Management or other department management as necessary.
  • Work closely with the Directors of Hotel Operations, Guest Claims, Crisis Management, Safety and Engineering to ensure the overall safety and security of patrons and employees. 
  • Responsible for ensuring department management accurately complete all shift administrative duties. These tasks consist of daily workflow duties including but not limited to attendance, discipline, schedules, briefing material, email correspondence and overtime justifications.
  • Will work with the Assistant Directors of Security to coordinate the recruitment, selection and training process of Security Officers, Security Management and Specialty Team positions within the department.
  • Monitor security staffing levels to ensure workforce efficiency is maximized at all times. 
  • Forecast, anticipate and mitigate shortfalls in staffing across the Security Department
  • When staffing shortfalls are forecasted and anticipated, proactively put measures in place to prevent staffing shortfalls that impact operations, OT worked and other budgetary factors. 
  • Review all incidents that occurred in a timely manner to ensure proper procedures were followed and assess whether the training the officers or supervisors received was suitable to enable them to handle the situation they encountered.
  • Lead and facilitate administrative principles and practices, including goal setting, program development, implementation and evaluation of policies and procedures, supervision of staff and overall program management.
  • Provide oversight of the Security Admin team responsible for meeting departmental expectations to include, but not limited to administrative functions, departmental training, hiring and recruitment, Field Training Officer program, Security Lead program, policy and procedure development.
  • Will ensure training and development initiatives are constantly improved and updated as well as review, establish, and maintain standard operating procedures for the Security department.
  • Actively communicate company updates, policy changes, hotel occupancy, special events, and messages from senior management to all team members in the department via department wide communications, briefings and one on one interactions.
  • Use logic and reasoning to analyze, understand and evaluate complex situations by identifying the strengths and weaknesses of alternative approaches or solutions to a situation and exercise appropriate judgement in establishing priorities while considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions.
  • Project a professional demeanor both in dress and behavior.
  • Ensures security management understands, adheres to, and enforces the Wynn policies and procedures in accordance with the progressive discipline policy.
  • Liaison and work in conjunction with local law enforcement to resolve issues of a criminal nature.
  • Maintain knowledge of applicable gaming, city, state, and federal laws.
  • Be knowledgeable and able to execute the essential functions of all Security positions.
  • Responsible for thorough and timely completion of special projects/assignments.
  • Responsible for providing support to Property Executives.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of special events and situational awareness of Security staffing and procedures for Special Events. 
  • Responsible for communicating regularly with Vice President of Security and other Security Department Directors with incident notifications, changes, observations, and recommendations concerning Security Department operations. 
  • Ensure notifications contain accurate, relevant, and timely information to both the Vice President of Security and other property executives.
  • Have a thorough understanding of all department emergency response and unified command protocols, as well as being prepared to assume command in the absence of higher levels of leadership.
  • Attend required training classes, meetings, and company functions.
  • Create and maintain a positive work environment.
  • May be assigned other duties as necessary.

Qualifications

  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Requires a high school diploma or equivalent, college degree preferred.
  • Previous hospitality experience highly preferred.
  • Ability to work on holidays, frequently shift adjust schedule and attend company special events.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal & written. Must be able to effectively communicate in English with guests, management, and other employees. Second language preferred, but not required.
  • A valid Nevada Gaming License (or ability to obtain one), CPR and Alcohol Awareness certification are required and must be obtained before entering this position.
  • Be able to stand, sit, kneel, lift, and walk indoors and outdoors for extended periods of time.

Best Candidates Will Possess:

  • 10+ years of progressively responsible leadership and management experience with a background in Hospitality, Security, and Law Enforcement.
  • Be able to perform the essential functions of all Security positions.
  • Knowledge of current security functions in day/night clubs.
  • Ability to develop strong professional relationships with other property, company, and corporate executives.
  • Understanding of current crime prevention strategies and concepts.
  • Understanding of local, state and federal laws pertaining to the gaming and hospitality sector.
  • Ability to develop and implement policies and procedures.
  • Understanding of training concepts and adult learning.
  • Strong leadership qualities and understanding of current leadership principles and concepts.
  • Ability to supervise in a fast paced, stressful environment.
  • Strong customer service skills.  Ability to deal with problems involving patrons and operational issues, while maintaining a positive attitude.
  • Able to multi-task and work effectively in stressful, high-pressure situations.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Excellent public speaking skills.
  • A positive, “whatever it takes” attitude.
  • Excellent negotiation, problem solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Able to work alone or within a team.
  • Able to maintain the highest level of confidentiality regarding guests and staff.
  • Knowledge of the following systems is preferred: HotSOS, Medallia, Opera, Patron, and Itrak.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
