Lead Performance Engineer

Role Overview:

As the Lead Performance Engineer, you will serve as the right hand to the Central UX Leader, translating strategic vision into technical execution across McAfee's entire UX organization. You will drive the leader's key initiatives by establishing data-driven infrastructure, performance engineering capabilities, and design systems that enable exceptional user experiences at scale across all Protection Pillars serving millions of users globally.

This is a strategic technical leadership role where you'll bridge executive strategy with engineering execution, making the UX organization's vision measurable, scalable, and operationally excellent.

This is a remote role based in the United States. We are only considering candidates currently in the United States and are not offering relocation assistance.

About The Role:

  • Translate UX organizational strategy into technical roadmaps and executable initiatives with clear success metrics 
  • Drive the leader's top priorities including design system standardization, data-driven decision making, and performance excellence 
  • Serve as technical advisor on feasibility, resource requirements, and technical approaches for strategic initiatives 
  • Own quarterly business reviews demonstrating UX organization impact through data and analytics 
  • Lead 3-5 strategic initiatives annually, ensuring on-time delivery and measurable business impact 
  • Represent UX technical capabilities in cross-functional forums with product, engineering, and security leadership 
  • Architect real-time analytics infrastructure processing millions of daily UX events with sub-second latency 
  • Build comprehensive KPI frameworks tracking user satisfaction, workflow completion, false positive impact, and performance metrics 
  • Design experiments and measurement strategies leveraging existing A/B testing platforms to enable 50+ rigorous experiments annually 
  • Create self-service analytics dashboards empowering product teams with actionable insights, utilizing AI to automatically surface critical signals and anomalies 
  • Establish anomaly detection and alerting systems for proactive identification of UX degradation 
  • Generate executive analytics reports with strategic recommendations and ROI demonstrations 
  • Lead performance engineering strategy establishing benchmarks, budgets, and SLOs across desktop, mobile, and web 
  • Implement automated performance testing in CI/CD pipelines preventing regressions from reaching production 
  • Conduct systematic performance profiling and drive optimization initiatives reducing latency by 30% 
  • Set up scale test infrastructure validating UX performance under production-like conditions 
  • Balance security effectiveness with system impact through data-driven resource optimization 
  • Define and enforce performance budgets for component bundles, API response times, and memory footprints 
  • Own shared component library ensuring 95%+ adoption and cross-pillar visual/interaction consistency 
  • Define design system governance, documentation standards, and adoption guidelines 
  • Measure and report design system ROI including development time savings and consistency improvements 
  • Drive specific post-release quality metrics on the weekly Consumer Protection Engineering operations call, ensuring continuous improvement visibility 
  • Mentor UI developers and design system engineers across US and India teams on data-driven approaches 
  • Establish best practices for UX measurement, performance engineering, and experimentation culture 
  • Build organizational capability through documentation, training, and technical knowledge sharing 
  • Facilitate career development through stretch assignments and project leadership opportunities 

About You:

  • 10+ years leading technical initiatives in UX infrastructure, analytics, or performance engineering at scale 
  • Proven track record as strategic execution partner to senior leadership, translating vision into deliverable results 
  • Demonstrated ability to drive multiple complex initiatives simultaneously across distributed teams 
  • Strong influencing skills building consensus across engineering, product, and business stakeholders 
  • Experience navigating ambiguity and establishing structure, success criteria, and measurement approaches 
  • Expert knowledge of real-time data processing architectures, stream processing, analytical data warehousing, visualization platforms, APM solutions, and statistical analysis methodologies 
  • Deep understanding of UX measurement frameworks, behavioral analytics, and experimentation platforms 
  • Extensive experience in performance engineering, load testing, profiling, and optimization techniques 
  • Experience with design systems, component architecture, and cross-platform UI frameworks 
  • Familiarity with AI/ML approaches for automated signal detection and anomaly identification in large datasets 
  • Understanding of security application UX challenges including performance impact, false positives, and user trust 
  • Experience with cross-platform security products and balancing security effectiveness with user experience 
  • Knowledge of telemetry requirements, privacy considerations, and GDPR compliance 
  • Exceptional communication skills presenting complex technical concepts to executive audiences 
  • Data storytelling ability translating analytics into compelling narratives driving decision-making 
  • Proven ability to mentor technical talent across experience levels and geographies 
  • Strong stakeholder management building trusted relationships across product, engineering, and business 
  • Preferred Qualifications include: experience in B2C software products serving 10M+ users, background as strategic execution partner to VP or C-level leadership, track record building measurement infrastructure and analytics capabilities from ground up, ddvanced degree in Computer Science, Statistics, or related technical field
