Job Description

Take our vision into the future.

Are you ready to take up a vital role in shaping some of our exciting projects? How about joining our talented team, where everyone has a voice, and together we face our clients' problems head-on. It's a diverse and inclusive work environment where world-class talent knows no distinctions. We know that different people have different priorities, which is why we're here to support you. Flexible and remote working is a central part of our culture. So talk to us about what's ideal for you – from reduced weeks to buying more leave over school holidays. And if you're returning from a career break, ask us how we can help you transition back into work with us. AtkinsRéalis is one of the world’s leading design and engineering consultancies, responding to the most technically challenging and time critical infrastructure projects. The Air Quality and Emissions team is part of an award winning, multi-disciplinary environmental consultancy practice, providing air quality consultancy and emissions management services in connection with a wide range of land development, transport and energy clients. We work for local and national governments, industrial clients, funding agencies and lenders, property developers, infrastructure contractors and regulatory authorities.

Your Purpose:

  • Designing and managing desk-based air quality, dust, odour and carbon emissions assessments for planning applications, environmental permit applications and Environmental Impact Assessments.
  • Preparing emissions inventories and undertaking dispersion modelling, to inform action planning and mitigation for air and carbon emissions.
  • Designing and managing air quality and other types of surveys, including understanding the importance of health and safety risk management, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Producing air quality, dust, odour and carbon emission assessments for a range of infrastructure projects, including interpreting and presenting the results.
  • Identifying the need for and types of feasible solutions for mitigating effects of air pollution and carbon emissions.
  • Preparing and delivering air quality reports, presentations and guidance which provide specialist technical opinions and advice.
  • Providing input to bids and business development activities to secure work for the team.
  • Working as part of a wider team of professionals across the business, to provide an integrated service to clients.
  • Managing your own workload and that of others within defined budgets and programmes.
  • Continuous professional development and application of technical and digital skills.

What You Can Bring:

  • Hold a higher degree qualification (or equivalent) in a relevant scientific subject.
  • Knowledge of a range of air pollution and carbon issues including relevant legislation, policies and standards applicable in the UK.
  • Expertise in relevant areas of environmental science, atmospheric science, meteorology, air quality management, monitoring and/or modelling.
  • Proficient in standard IT applications, such as Word, Excel, Outlook, and Powerpoint.
  • Knowledge and experience of analysing and interpreting data using spreadsheets and GIS.
  • Experience of using statistical analysis packages and/or computer programming language and/or other digital tools would be an advantage.
  • Pride in delivering technically excellent work, with high reporting standards and embracing innovative approaches to assessment.
  • Experience of liaising with and managing relationships with regulators, stakeholders, contractors and/or suppliers.
  • Prior experience of working in air quality consultancy or a job with similar types of responsibilities.
  • Experience of providing technical input to planning consultations or inquiries is desirable, but not essential.
  • Understanding of the interrelationships with other environmental and engineering specialisms.
  • Be a full member – or be working towards full membership - of a relevant professional body.
