Description

The Unit Manager - LPN is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of a designated nursing unit in a healthcare, long-term care, or assisted living facility. The Unit Manager ensures that all residents receive high-quality care, supervises nursing staff, and manages clinical workflows. This role includes a combination of leadership, clinical oversight, and administrative responsibilities to ensure that the unit runs smoothly while maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements. RNs are also welcome to apply.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Unit Leadership And Supervision:

  • Oversee and manage nursing staff, including LPNs, RNs, and Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs), ensuring that all care provided meets facility standards.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, provide feedback, and support staff development through coaching and mentorship.
  • Ensure that staffing levels are adequate for each shift by creating and managing staff schedules.
  • Lead daily shift handovers and team meetings, ensuring that all staff are informed of changes in residents’ conditions and care plans.
  • Patient Care Management:

  • Monitor the delivery of care within the unit to ensure residents' needs are met, including overseeing medication administration and treatments.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary care team to develop, implement, and update individualized care plans for residents.
  • Conduct regular assessments of residents’ health conditions and make adjustments to care plans as needed.
  • Serve as a clinical resource to staff, providing guidance and support in handling complex resident cases.
  • Regulatory Compliance And Documentation:

  • Ensure that the unit complies with all federal, state, and facility regulations, including infection control protocols, safety measures, and patient privacy standards.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record (EHR) system, ensuring compliance with documentation requirements.
  • Participate in facility audits, surveys, and inspections, implementing corrective actions as needed to address any deficiencies.
  • Conduct regular reviews of clinical documentation to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Quality Improvement And Resident Advocacy:

  • Implement quality assurance and improvement initiatives to enhance resident care and improve overall unit performance.
  • Address resident and family concerns promptly and professionally, ensuring their satisfaction with the care provided.
  • Act as an advocate for residents, ensuring that their rights are respected and that care is delivered with dignity and compassion.
  • Collaboration And Communication:

  • Collaborate with other department heads, including social services, dietary, and rehabilitation, to ensure comprehensive care for residents.
  • Maintain open and effective communication with residents' families, updating them on their loved ones' health status and care plans.
  • Participate in care conferences, interdisciplinary meetings, and care planning discussions to ensure coordinated care delivery.

Qualifications

  • Education: Graduate of an accredited LPN program.
  • Licensure: Active and unrestricted Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license. RNs are welcome to apply.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2-3 years of nursing experience, preferably in a long-term care or healthcare setting, with at least 1 year in a supervisory or leadership role.
  • Skills:

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
