Comprising 1,650 researchers spread across 14 Research Centres around the world, our Global R&D team aims to continuously improve the quality of steel and its manufacturing processes. This involves investigating and developing disruptive technologies, reducing the carbon footprint of steel, and optimizing costs while maintaining uncompromising quality. The team's strong multicultural diversity, with over 30 nationalities, offers international experience and makes it possible to meet global needs.

You will join the Metallic Coatings and Surfaces (MCS) cluster, which is part of the Product Research Centre. This cluster, consisting of about 80 people, aims to master and develop both existing and new metallic coatings, surface treatments, and innovative processes. 
To achieve these objectives, various areas of expertise are developed and applied, including corrosion resistance, surface analysis, coating behavior/characterization, and the hot-dip galvanizing process. The position offered is within the “Corrosion Team”. In this team, consisting of 17 people, activities focus on (i) evaluating the corrosion resistance of our steels, both with and without coatings, (ii) understanding corrosion mechanisms and identifying the key drivers required to achieve high levels of corrosion performance.

Your Role

The job is focused on :

  • Establishing corrosion diagnostics on our coated and uncoated steel solutions, based on accelerated tests recognized by our customers;
  • Crossing available analytical techniques to enrich diagnostics and reach robust conclusions;
  • Presenting results in a format that facilitates communication and adoption within official committees;
  • Broadening knowledge in the corrosion field by interacting internally and externally with technical stakeholders;
  • Developing innovative investigation methods for corrosion assessment;
  • Implementing digital approaches to simplify certain repetitive operations and save time for scientific work on corrosion. 

This job requires a solid knowledge in material and surfaces science, electrochemistry, data science. 

Your Profile

  • You hold a Master's degree or a PHD in the field of material science and/or applied chemistry, electrochemistry. Data science would be a plus.
  • Any previous experience in steel industry/corrosion domain would be an asset.
  • You have a good background in material science, corrosion, electrochemistry and surface reactivity.
  • You are fluent in French and English.
  • You are a team player with good communication skills.
  • You are rigorous and autonomous. 
  • You are curious and have the willingness to learn constantly.
