This involves investigating and developing disruptive technologies, reducing the carbon footprint of steel, and optimizing costs while maintaining uncompromising quality. You will join the Metallic Coatings and Surfaces (MCS) cluster, which is part of the Product Research Centre. This cluster, consisting of about 80 people, aims to master and develop both existing and new metallic coatings, surface treatments, and innovative processes.
To achieve these objectives, various areas of expertise are developed and applied, including corrosion resistance, surface analysis, coating behavior/characterization, and the hot-dip galvanizing process. The position offered is within the "Surface Analysis and Mastering Team." In this team, consisting of about 20 people, activities focus on : (i) developing new surface treatments aiming at improving in-use properties of our steels, (ii) mastering surface topography of our coatings for painted appearance optimization, (iii) assessing the compatibility of our bare and coated substrates with automotive painting process and surface analysis.
Your Role
The Job Is Focused On:
- improving exposed coated steel offer with mastered painted appearance (it includes data analysis of current production conditions, identification of optimization options, interaction with plant teams to implement new production rules, assessment of optimized production by laboratory means)
- functionalizing surfaces of bare and coated steels (it includes the management of application of specific surface treatments on steels and characterization of the functionalized steels)
- anticipating and ensuring the compatibility of our future steel offer (new coated steel & XCarb products) with the automotive painting process (current and future). It includes management of internal lab studies as well as collaboration with suppliers.
This job requires a solid knowledge in material and surfaces science, chemistry, data science. Information programming skills are an asset.
Your Profile
- You hold a Master's degree in the field of material science and/or applied chemistry. Data science would be a plus.
- Any previous experience in steel industry/chemist industry would be an asset, especially in surface treatments.
- You have a good background in material science and interfaces chemistry/surface reactivity.
- You are fluent in French and English.
- You are a team player with good communication skills.
- You are rigorous and autonomous.
- You are curious and have the willingness to learn constantly.
