Consultant - Oncology

1. Duties And Responsibilities

2. Manages established Oncology patients with common medical ailments other than oncological problems.
   1. Conducts out patient consultations in the clinic and follow up on medical problems as needed.
   2. Ensures better documentation of all patients visiting Medical Oncology Department for OP consultation/Chemotherapy/admissions.
   3. Provide care for patient and effectively communicates with them and their families clarifying any doubts during the entire course of treatment, from diagnosis to recover of in patients and out patients. 
   4. Takes care of patients undergoing chemotherapy. 
   5. Schedules chemotherapy cycles in coordination with the patient. 
   6. Carry out activities related to Tumour Board. 
   7. Work with physicians and other medical staff to evaluate the prognosis of the illness.
   8. Responsible for overseeing proper adherence to infection control practises in the department.
   9. Ensures proper preparation, transport, administration of chemotherapy medications.
   10. Ensures proper collection, storage and disposal of medical and chemotherapy waste in the department. 
   11. Liaises with other allied specialities for timely and efficient patient care delivery.
   12. Organises Cancer support groups (self-help/discussion) to facilitate patient to patient interaction.
   13. Counsels and prepares the patient for acceptance and further management.
   14. Liaises with external healthcare facility on behalf of patients for any investigations/treatment/opinion.
   15. Maintains KPIs related to Medical Oncology Department. 
   16. To develop Medical Oncology manual with Standard Operating Procedures and guidelines as in coordination with the Quality Department. 
   17. Admits patients and completes all aspects of Medical records as required. 
   18. Attends CME’s and updates self on knowledge regarding latest Medical Oncology practises. 
   19. Develop knowledge of the evidence – based management of cancer patients treated within the unit. 
   20. Get exposed to clinical research and be competent in managing patients within clinical research protocols.
   21. Examine and talk to patients to diagnose their medical conditions.
   22. Make notes, both as a record of treatment and for referral. 
   23. Liaise with other medical and non-medical staff in the hospital to ensure quality treatment.
   24. Maintain knowledge of applicable local regulations and requirements.
   25. Developing and maintaining professional quality standards and recommending the improvement of such standards to meet those of the JCI, DOH.
   26. Monitoring the quality of medical care provided to patients hospitalized. 
   27. Reviews death cases with internists and other physicians.
   28. Conducts the periodic health program for company executives.

4. Work in all shifts as scheduled by the Head of Department.
5.  Monitors clinical and other established indicators to ensure ongoing quality assurance.
   1. Strictly adheres to organization’s regulations and policies especially those related to infection control, patient safety, OSHAD, DOH, JCI and ISO.
6. Supports Continuous Quality Improvement and participates and contributes to all the quality assurance activities of the service.
7. Participates and contributes in scheduled in-service training programs like BLS, CNEs, CMEs, In house activities, conferences or other programs as requested.
8. Familiarize themselves and comply with all OSH and Infection Control policies, standards and procedures that are relevant for their workplace
   1. Work in accordance with the documented occupational, safety and health procedures and instructions, specific responsibilities defined in individual procedures and instructions. 
      1. Use of appropriate personal protective equipment and safety systems and follow safe working procedures 
      2. Be familiar with emergency and evacuation procedures
      3. Not willfully or recklessly endanger anyone's health and safety. Take reasonable care for the health and safety of persons that may be affected by the employee’s acts or omissions at the workplace.
      4. Assist with the preparation of risk assessments 
      5. Attend applicable departmental safety training and follow OSHMS policies and procedures.
      6. Take reasonable care of their own health and safety 
      7. Cooperate with their employer with respect to any action taken by the employer to comply with OSHMS requirements.
      8. Notify supervisor or Department Safety facilitator of any hazards, health and safety mishaps or incidents within or outside their area of work.

Task Specific OSH Responsibilities, Authority and accountabilities of the position includes: 

1. Assist management during potential emergency situations 
   1. Must be familiar with common hazards, ergonomic, sharps and biological hazards in work area and how to handle them
      1. Safe use of all Department Instrument’s/equipment’s and Machines as per manufacturer instruction 
      2. Safe handling, use and disposal of needles /sharps 
      3. Assists to Identify, label and maintain department specific hazardous materials , (M)SDS and its current inventory

2. QUALIFICATION, LICENSURE, EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SPECIAL SKILLS
3. Graduation from an approved medical school plus one year of internship and three years of residency; certification by the American Board of Internal medicine or Member of the Royal College of Physicians (or its equivalent).
4. At least five (5) years of practice as an Oncologist as a licensed specialist.
5. Excellent command of oral and written English. Knowledge of Arabic language is desirable but not essential.
   1. Must be highly skilled in the particular field of practice, with mature clinical judgment and ability to provide professional leadership. He / she must have a thorough knowledge of Medical Department policies and procedures with particular reference to the obligation to maintain the confidentiality of his work; personality which inspires confidence and trust in his patients; and adhere to Bylaws, Rules and Regulations of the Medical Organization.
6. Current licensure in country of origin and with DOH license to practice Internal Medicine in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
7. Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with co-workers, superiors, patients & families.
