In this role you will provide psychological assessments, brief therapy (including trauma-focused approaches), and health promotion to support workforce wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Proactive administration and management of referrals.
  • Providing information specific to psychological health and wellbeing resources, specialist services, and support networks and/or supporting direct referral to services where appropriate.
  • Conducting psychological assessments of health, functioning and risk using standardised assessments, clinical measures, and good practice guidance to inform agreed outcomes.
  • Providing effective, brief therapy interventions including trauma focussed psychotherapy to meet the diverse needs of a policing workforce. 
  • Formulation and planning involving use of cognitive, emotional, or behavioural techniques to facilitate the stabilisation and/or processing of traumatic experience specific to the workplace.
  • Continuous assessment of risk and the therapeutic process including the effectiveness of interventions and professional rational for adjustment where required.
  • Working collaboratively to ensure the effective delivery of routine Psychological Health Surveillance (PHS) through the structured assessment of psychological health; including routine monitoring of the impact of trauma and factors associated with coping and resilience for both individuals and teams. 
  • Professional, clear, and accurate record keeping ensuring safe, effective care in line with good practice guidance, organisational and legal requirements.
  • Work collaboratively within a team and engage proactively in management and clinical supervision, to ensure maintenance of safe, ethical practice standards. 
  • Promote and protect safe, quality practice by working within professional, ethical, and good practice guidance as defined by the organisations policies, procedures, and the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP).
  • Active engagement in continuous professional development where required by the organisation.

Skills And Experience:

  • The candidate must have completed a core practitioner training programme in counselling or psychotherapy, with a minimum qualification of a Diploma.
  • The qualification must be obtained through a comprehensive, in-depth professional training programme that includes substantial supervised practice and theoretical study meeting the recommended training standards set by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
  • The candidate must demonstrate evidence of ongoing Continuing Professional Development (CPD), specifically in brief therapy approaches and/or trauma-focused psychotherapy.
  • The post holder must be a registered member of the BACP (aligned with Column A of the SCoPEd framework), or an equivalent professional body.
  • They must also be eligible to apply for individual accredited membership (aligned with Column B of the SCoPEd framework) with the BACP.

Eligibility:

Applicants must meet the minimum requirement checkable history criteria, which must be taken into account for individuals applying to work with South Yorkshire Police in any capacity. A minimum checkable history of 5 years is required for this role and successfully undergoing recruitment vetting procedure is a pre-requisite of employment with South Yorkshire Police.
