Job Purpose:

The Control Room Operator is responsible for managing and monitoring smelter processes in real-time using the Distributed Control System (DCS), ensuring the smooth execution of production plans and adherence to quality, safety, and regulatory standards. This role focuses on optimizing process parameters, minimizing deviations, and ensuring the effective coordination between field operations and the control room. The Control Room Operator plays a key role in troubleshooting equipment issues, driving continuous process improvements, and promoting the adoption of digital tools for enhanced operational efficiency. Additionally, they are responsible for maintaining accurate data records, reporting on production performance, and ensuring cost-effective operations in alignment with organizational objectives.

Control Room Operator - Smelter – Copper

Production Planning And Execution:

  • Operate smelter processes using the Distributed Control System (DCS) to maintain production targets and ensure smooth operations.
  • Monitor all process parameters to ensure alignment with the production plan and make necessary real-time adjustments.
  • Plan and demand sample collections for lab assays to ensure process compliance and production quality.
  • Coordinate with the shift in-charge and field operators to execute production schedules effectively.
  • Respond to deviations by adjusting operational parameters in real-time to maintain uninterrupted production.

Process Optimization And Continuous Improvement:

  • Monitor operational trends to identify opportunities for process improvements and increased efficiency.
  • Implement changes based on lab assay results to optimize output and minimize process deviations.
  • Collaborate with the engineering and maintenance teams to troubleshoot bottlenecks and improve operational flow.
  • Evaluate equipment and process performance continuously to introduce improvements and reduce downtime.

Quality Assurance And Control:

  • Ensure that process parameters align with lab assay results to maintain product quality.
  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to maintain production consistency and quality.
  • Monitor interlocks to prevent deviations, ensuring adherence to safety protocols.
  • Inspect materials in collaboration with the lab team, verifying that they meet quality standards before moving forward in the production process.

Equipment Monitoring And Troubleshooting:

  • Monitor equipment via DCS to detect any real-time performance deviations and ensure smooth operations.
  • Troubleshoot first-level equipment and process issues to resolve minor disruptions quickly.
  • Coordinate with the maintenance team for immediate attention to equipment issues and follow-up on repairs.
  • Ensure that preventive maintenance schedules are followed to maintain optimal equipment performance and minimize breakdowns.

Hse And Regulatory Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) protocols, including Permit to Work (PTW) procedures.
  • Monitor process parameters to ensure they meet environmental regulations related to emissions and waste management.
  • Inspect for safety compliance and ensure proper documentation of safety checks and activities.
  • Promote a safety-conscious environment by strictly following SOPs and interlock monitoring.

Resource And Workforce Management:

  • Oversee coordination between field operators and the control room to ensure efficient use of manpower and resources.
  • Assign tasks to field operators based on real-time data from DCS to balance workloads.
  • Coordinate with the maintenance team to ensure prompt attention to equipment issues.
  • Optimize resource utilization by coordinating operational teams and ensuring proper material handling.

Reporting And Data Analytics:

  • Record all process parameters, operational data, and deviations in detailed shift reports for analysis.
  • Prepare daily production reports summarizing efficiency, equipment performance, and any issues encountered.
  • Utilize data analytics tools to identify trends in production and recommend improvements.
  • Ensure all data is accurately recorded and reported to relevant departments for decision-making.

Digitization And Tech Adoption:

  • Utilize DCS software to monitor and control smelting processes in real-time for efficient operations.
  • Adopt new digital tools for enhanced process monitoring, trend analysis, and automated reporting.
  • Implement automation in routine tasks to improve efficiency and reduce manual errors.
  • Stay updated on technological advancements in control systems and propose their adoption for process improvement.

Education Qualification:

Bsc In Science
