The Opportunity

Save the Children is seeking an experienced and motivated HR, Administration & Safeguarding Officer (HRASO) to support the effective delivery of people management, administrative services, and safeguarding systems at our Area Programme Office in Malawi. This role is central to ensuring high-quality employee lifecycle management, smooth office operations, and the integration of safeguarding standards across all programming activities.

As a key member of the Area Programme Management team, the HRASO will lead on a range of core human resources functions including recruitment, onboarding, performance management, and learning and development. In addition, the postholder will manage administrative processes such as facilities management, office logistics, and service contracts, while providing direct support to ensure safeguarding mechanisms are implemented, monitored, and continuously improved across the Area Programme.

The role holder will also be responsible for coordinating safe programming, identifying child safeguarding risks, and ensuring these are addressed effectively. This is an exciting opportunity for a committed HR and administrative professional to play a critical role in ensuring that Save the Children staff are supported and children remain safe and protected across all areas of our work.

In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.

To be successful, you will bring/have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management, Public Administration, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years' relevant experience in human resource and administrative management, preferably within an INGO or corporate setting.
  • Solid understanding of Malawi labour laws and HR best practices.
  • Proven experience in managing HR systems (HRIS), performance management, recruitment, and onboarding processes.
  • Strong administrative, logistical and facilities management skills, including office operations and lease management.
  • Experience in safeguarding policy implementation and handling sensitive safeguarding matters.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build strong internal and external relationships.
  • High level of attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Strong commitment to Save the Children’s values and mission.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to field locations when necessary
