We are the Research Group for Information Systems and Applied Artificial Intelligence, based at the Institute for Information Management and Control and at the Department of Information Systems and Operations Management. Our work investigates both short-term and long-term implications of Artificial Intelligence and other digital technologies from multiple perspectives.
Our research focuses particularly on organizational aspects, such as the transformations that occur at the level of business processes, routines, and roles.
Topics We Explore Include:
- AI-driven changes in processes and organizational roles
- The interplay between AI and social norms
- Behavioral and digital visibility enabled by process mining and Industrial Internet of Things
- Broader questions surrounding the adoption and impact of emerging digital technologies
Methodologically, we combine qualitative-inductive approaches, computationally intensive theorizing, and design science research.
In our teaching, we engage students at the undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate levels, offering courses on information systems, artificial intelligence, business process management, and computational theorizing.
We are actively involved in the international Information Systems community, and our research has been published or is forthcoming in the field’s leading journals.
What To Expect
- Research: Empirical and conceptual research in Information Systems, particularly in the context of Applied AI and organizational workflows
- Teaching at the Bachelor’s and Master’s level around topics related to Information Systems, Applied Artificial Intelligence and/or Business Process Management
- Co-supervision of Bachelor and Master theses
- Research design: Development of research proposals
- Network building: Initiation and management of collaborations with organizations in teaching and research
- Organizational and administrative support: Organizing and planning of international scientific meetings (workshops, symposia, etc.) as well as administration tasks within the Institute for Information Management and Control
What You Have To Offer
- Academic Degree: PhD in information systems research or social and economic sciences (with focus on IT), or a related subject, and with a similar qualification, respectively
- Research experience in the Information Systems field, particularly in research on socio-technical aspects of AI; research on organizational workflows is advantageous
- Methods: Experience with the rigorous application of information systems-related research methods
- Publications: Demonstrated experience in planning, conducting and presenting research to the Information Systems community (conference papers, journal articles, etc.)
- Motivation: Demonstrated ambition to publish research in top journals in the Information Systems field
- Additional skills: Interest in, or experience with computationally intensive research designs leveraging digital trace data (e.g., in the form of event logs)
- Teaching: Relevant teaching experience in subjects related to the Information Systems field
- Language skills: Proficient in English, knowledge of German is an advantage
- Willingness to use multimedia teaching methods: You are prepared to use multimedia teaching and learning formats
