The Chief Nursing Officer Directorate (CNOD) provides the Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care and Scottish Ministers with high-quality policy and professional practice advice on Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health Professions (NMAHP), Healthcare Science (HCS), Professional Healthcare Regulation, as well as Healthcare Associated Infection (HCAI) and Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR).
The post holder will sit in NMAHP and HCS education team which comprises both policy and professional colleagues. You will focus on a number of key policy areas including Nursing and Midwifery undergraduate and post graduate education and training and student support. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a wide range of stakeholders including Universities, NHS Education Scotland, Scottish Funding Council, Student Awards Agency Scotland, Health Boards, colleagues across the SG and others to ensure we continue to attract, recruit and retain students so we have the future health workforce supply we need.
Responsibilities- Alongside the engagement with stakeholders, you will work collaboratively with colleagues to support wider policy outcomes as well as progressing your own distinct policy, including completing a review of the student finance support package.
- Leading the response to emergent issues, including preparing briefings and advice to Ministers and working closely with internal and external stakeholders to ensure appropriate interventions are taken forward and key information is received.
- Having direct responsibility for the oversight, planning and delivery of policies, including those announced in the Nursing and Midwifery Taskforce review, designing and developing approaches to ensure delivery of outcomes (including project or programme management strategies, analysis of data, impact assessments, and monitoring and evaluation).
- Draft correspondence and responses to Parliamentary questions and FoIs.
- Working across SG Directorates to support the development and delivery of key policies in Scotland.
- Produce and contribute to related communications activity including media requests, Ministerial engagements (both online and in-person) and speeches.
- Support the wider team by picking up priority issues related to the Allied Health Professions or Healthcare Science education policies as necessary.
