What is the Head of Data Services?

The Head of Data Services is a visionary and execution driven senior leadership role responsible for leading and scaling The Software Factory’s Data & Systems Engineering practice.
This position combines technical depth, practice management, and people leadership to ensure the organization remains at the forefront of Managed Services, Data Engineering, Data Products, Data Monetization, AI & Analytics, and Systems Engineering.

The role is ideal for leaders with a strong foundation in technology delivery who can drive innovation, operational excellence, and capability development across multiple technical domains.

• Define and execute the Data Services strategy, aligning capabilities with evolving market and client needs.
• Drive growth and scalability of the Data Services practice while maintaining high delivery standards.
• Build a strong brand identity for the Data Services function within The Software Factory ecosystem.
• Lead specialized squads across Data Engineering, Systems Engineering, Managed Services, and Data Monetization.
• Ensure world-class delivery of turnkey projects and managed services through effective governance, SLAs, and KPIs.
• Integrate AI/ML, cloud-native engineering, and modern data stacks into practice offerings.
• Build structured frameworks for skill development, certification, and career progression within the practice.
• Mentor technical leads and create a strong talent pipeline for future leadership roles.
• Partner with HR and L&D to drive upskilling initiatives and continuous capability enhancement.
• Partner with Business Development to design and price competitive service offerings.
• Collaborate with cross-functional leaders to ensure data services are embedded in broader transformation programs.
• Contribute to the long-term strategy of The Software Factory by bringing thought leadership on technology trends.

Requirements

What are we looking for in the Head of Data Services?

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or related technical field.
• Master’s degree in Business or Technology preferred.

Experience

• 10–15 years of experience in Data & IT services, with at least 5 years in leadership roles.
• Proven track record in managing large engineering teams (50+ people) and complex delivery portfolios.
• Demonstrated success in delivering managed services, data engineering projects, and monetizable data products.

Soft Skills

• Strong people leadership and mentoring ability.
• Excellent governance, program management, and project delivery discipline.
• Commercial awareness around cost structures, margins, and scalability models.
