Description

Do you love sports and working with kids? The Summit Area YMCA is looking for enthusiastic Sports Instructors to lead fun, engaging, and safe sports programs for children and youth. This role is all about inspiring teamwork, teaching fundamentals and ethics, and building confidence through play.

Salary & Benefits:

The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $20.00, based on experience. This Part Time position, up to 25 hours per week, works onsite at either the Summit YMCA, Berkeley Heights YMCA, or one of our offsite locations. Teaching opportunities are available for courses in basketball, soccer, T-ball, tennis, football, and boxing. Classes are held on weekdays and weekends from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. The weekly scheduled hours may change based on program offerings and student registration. The Summit Area YMCA offers generous employee benefits. Essential Functions:

  • Instruct participants on the proper skills needed for the specific sport. Be an active instructor- no sitting down while teaching
  • Lead high-energy sports classes that encourage skill-building, teamwork, and confidence.
  • Teach sports fundamentals and ethics, focusing on respect, fairness, and good sportsmanship.
  • Ensure safety in all program areas while maintaining a fun and welcoming environment.
  • Serve as a visible, active, and enthusiastic role model — engaged and on your feet throughout instruction.
  • Foster positive relationships with children, parents, and staff.
  • Promote the YMCA mission of Youth Development, Healthy Living, and Social Responsibility.
  • As an Ambassador for the Y, communicates to members, volunteers, and the general public that the Y is the nation’s leading non-profit committed to strengthening the community through Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience in sports instruction, coaching, or recreation.
  • Experience working with children is strongly preferred.
  • CPR/AED & First Aid certified (or ability to obtain within three months).
